Carry Option 1911's
So I gotta say I'm a big STI fan. Right now I have only a Ranger II but would like to add more to my soon to become 1911 collection. I've talked to Glock2740(Thanks brother) already about Dan Wesson CCO and it's great, but would also like to know other options as well. Especially in the Sti line.
So far I'm eyeballing the Lawman, Guardian, Spartan IV. Mind you this will be a carry piece so would like a slightly shorter frame, Commander size preferably and commander or officer size slide. 45acp or 9mm. Doesn't matter. What say you guys? |
Don, aka Quack, will be by shortly to sing the praises of the STI guns. And rightfully so. STI makes a great gun. He has more experience with those than I do, as I just own a Legacy. Plus, he owns a Guardian as well.

Guardians are excellent pistols andone of the best values on the market for a CCO style pistol.

The Colt Commander I got from Chuck Rogers & the Springfield
Compact 45 he built for me are outstanding for carry. In short, the Commander & Officer size 1911s make a sweet ccw! |

STI does make a heck of a 1911. :)

The Sig C3 and RCS are pretty nice too.
If I can ever sell my Kahr T40, that will be the next gun I get. |

They both look really great. Especially the Springfield. Is that a different coating on it?
I also like the beaver tail on the Colt, what kind is it? |
The Springer is finished in graphite black CeraKote, the Colt is
matte blasted & blued The grip safety is a bobbed factory Colt piece, basically a flush with the frame tangs. |

I really like the bobbed grip safety. Are there aftermarket parts like that available? |

Very nice, Greg  |

I'm not even sure if he is accepting work. My Springer was with Chuck nearly a year. There are some very good Pistol Smiths, some the very, VERY GOOD Smiths are booked for years. There are some new guys that only have a 3-6 month wait. I was able to strike a deal with Joe Chambers to do a bit of work on my Springfield Loaded project. Should be VERY sweet. Will not get that one back until early to mid January......will be worth it. |
Take a look at the EMP. It comes in 9mm & .40 cal. it's not just a downsized 1911, it was designed from the ground up to be what it is, the prettiest compact 1911 made.
|
Checked those out awhile back, didn't like them much. Thanks for the suggestion though Glockgeezer.
|
another vote for a Springfield Compact. Mine gets carried often enough. They are somewhat hard to find so you can also look at Champions. I have one waiting to get bobbed for carry.

Guess you could call it that,......no sharp edges but lines are still retained

Why not carry your Ranger II? I have one that is my daily carry in a Minotaur holster and a good belt. Those boys in Round Rock Texas build some nice pistols!
Nothing wrong with adding to your collection, but you have a good carry pistol there already. The only thing I have done to mine is I sent it out for the Hard Hat treatment at Severns Custom https://severnscustom.com |
