Finally took my CHL class

I finally got around to taking my CHL class for Texas. I have a brother-in-law who is an instructor and he threw together a last minute class for a friend of his and invited me and a couple of others along at a heavy discount so I took him up on it. His friend whom he put the class together for never called or showed, go figure.

But, we had coffee, Jack in the Box, lots of laughs and learned a lot about different types of force and when to use it. Plus, we got to go shoot. I confess I was nervous about the shooting part. I am not very good at my local range. However, I scored 249 out of 250 (If they still scored them that way that is) and all but 4 were in the 9 -10 ring. Hopefully if my life ever depends on it I will have the same results.

I tested with my Glock 21SF with Remington UMC 230gr. ball ammo. That is not what I intend to carry though. Now all I have to do is the part online, get fingerprinted and send it all off. I have my FFL so I don’t anticipate any issues and I buy guns all the time so it looks like I am in the market for a good carry rig. I am thinking of IWB small of back or 3’o’clock as that is where my hand goes naturally. I imagine I will go through several types before I find something I like but it will be worth it.

I am going to be reading in the Carry Issues forum for awhile before i start asking questions as I am sure alot of them can be answered that way.

Anyway, I am excited to be one more armed American exercising his 2nd amendment rights.

Congrats. I enjoy carrying in my IWB from hhholsters.com. Their ranger is really fantastic at 3:30 or 4.

I was just on their site. lol. The Ranger or Mini-Ranger?

Edit: Duh, never mind. I see you carry the Ranger. That is what I am looking for, something along those lines. I wonder how they feel on a fat ass? That is a factor I must contend with for now.

congrats! i lived in two very anti-gun states (neither had CCW) for many years prior to moving to Tx. One of the first things I did as soon as i got here was to get my CHL :)

Sounds like you had a good time and are on a good path!

Congrats on getting your CHL, I can't wait to get mine, but it takes money I don't have, unfortunately. Hopefully you find something that works. I intend to carry in the 4 o'clock position or so. Was thinking about the small of my back, but have read far too many stories about spinal injuries from slipping and landing on the gun.

Well done, brother.

Thanks. I am stoked. Now people will stop saying "You have an FFL but no CHL?" while looking at me like I slept with their sister.

Congratulations on getting your license to carry.

SOB carry can be convenient, but it can be real bad if you get pushed or fall on your back. I prefer IWB about 3:30 position carry. Some don't like IWB carry and carry OWB Or crossdraw. It will take some time to figure out how you will carry and be comfortable.

VERY nice shooting!

Thanks. I love my G21SF. It was an indoor range (Texas Handgun Academy) which is not my norm and the target was blowing around pretty good. They should have them weighted at the bottom.

True. Those large paper targets are like ship sails. Any little breeze gets them swinging.

lol. Funny thing is I didn't see anything weird about it. I got into an accident one time after making a pickup at Fedex of guns. the office asked me if I had anything in my truck that they needed to know about and I just laughed. By the time the wreck was done they were asking me for prices on new guns and asking if I gave LEO discounts. lol

You shoot well

with your G21!
