STI Trojan magazine issues
I just recently bought a brand new STI Trojan in 45acp. I went out and bought a few wilson combat magazines. I have noticed that they do tend to get somewhat stuck when I am trying to insert them so I have to give it a good slap upwards to seat them. Then when I hit the mag release, they drop about an inch and stop so I have to pull them out. Is this normal during the breaking in process or is there something wrong that I need to correct? Thanks this is my first 1911.

You probably have a grip bushing protruding into the magazine well. Look for scratching on your magazine to figure out which one and then get in there with a fine file.

Do what ClimbHard said, and if there's no markings on the mag body then perhaps the mag well is undersized or not polished enough to allow smooth insertion of the mags.

I had this problem with my spartan...The three finger spring has excess metal protruding unto the magazine area. Take it out and file the hook part that holds it into place. I even sent mine back to sti where they claimed to have fixed it but when I got it back it was still doing it until I did the above.

Thanks for your responses. I will have to sit down and work on it this weekend.

I played around with it some tonight and noticed that my wilson combat magazines catch but my sti magazines goes and drops freely with no problems at all. What brand of magazine should i buy?

I would try to find the root cause and fix it instead of limiting yourself to specific mags.

Also check for a bent trigger bow.

I bought an STI Trojan 45 a few months ago. It came through Dawson, with their magwell. I run Wilson 47D's. They run perfectly.

I just bought some VZ Grips with their screws, which are shorter than the OEMs. I am now able to feed the mags and drop the mags just fine. Thanks for everyones help.
