SW 15-22 Question

Had my first range session with the rifle, enjoyed it and had no problems. When I got home I cleaned it but could not figure out how to remove the structure around the barrel to wipe the outside of down. Know I must be missing something simple and any help would be appreciated.

Not sure why you want to remove the quad rail after just a trip to the range. If grime get under there, you may want to just use something like gunscrubber (spray) to clean it....

Removing the quad rail is a bit involved if you don't have the right tools or knowledge. Lots of info on youtube about removing/ swapping the handguard.

I never have, and have owned the rifle for 3 years with thousands of rounds downrange.

My gun cleaning education took place in BCT at Ft Benning in 1967 and has not progressed much since then. Habit is to wipe down every major part of the rifle to include the barrel. Agree that some habits may need to change.

S&W's M&P 15-22 fore-end is held in place at the rear by the barrel nut.

Barrel nut wrench found here:

Understood. Thank you for your service and my father was there only a couple years before you. I get it... a clean weapon is not a clean weapon until it is a clean weapon!!!

Long story short, you need a barrel nut wrench, and you basically remove the barrel in the process of getting the fore-end off....
