Neighbor hoses you down...what would you have done?

So my brother has a dog that barks his head off. The neighbor was outside and started barking back at the dog, out of frustration, apparently. The neighbor then starts cussing at the dog and spraying it with a garden hose. My brother walks out and asks the guy to stop cursing, as there are kids close by. The neighbor then proceeds to spray him with the hose lol. He simply walked away, letting cooler heads prevail.

I don't know what I would've done, but it would be really tough to just walk away. This is the kind of thing that will escalate to a bad situation quickly. I think I would have called the cops, even though it was harmless water, to document it. It would definitely be a tough pill to swallow, letting the neighbor get away with that. I understand a barking dog can be very annoying, but spraying someone with water can bring unecessary consequences.

Would you have just walked away, called the cops, or just beat his arse? My brother doesn't carry a gun, so that's not an issue with this situation. I understand if he had a CHL, then leaving the situation is the only way to go.

Don't get too carried away, or you'll get the brunt of his noise complaint against the dog.

.

sheriff733 09-30-2012 11:44

Wait for him to fall asleep then go slash 3 of his tires.

(ETA: No, not serious.)

Keoking 09-30-2012 11:44

If he doesn't burn his neighbor's house down, he is a failure as a man.

In terms of size, how does your bro and the neighbor match up? Is there an age disparity? If the neighbor is half his size and/or twice his age, there is no honor in getting physical.

I'm not even going to ask why 3, and why not 2 or 4.

kiole 09-30-2012 11:45

I would of got my 300gallon a minute pump and shot water back at him... But this would have never happened because I keep my dog under control.

elsolo 09-30-2012 11:46

I would certainly never advise that kind of reaction, but keep in mind:

-Unrelenting noise can drive people insane.
-The guy was observed to be barking like a dog and yelling inappropriate obscenities.

Sounds like the guy is overflowing with crazy at the moment, I would get the dog to be quiet and not try to avoid provoking crazy. You never know what crazy is going to do.

Why 3?

G23Gen4TX 09-30-2012 11:47

I would say that shutting the dog up will probably solve your brother's problems with his neighbour.

Well, if you slash all 4, you can claim it on your insurance as vandalism. If you slash 3, it's considered something like a road hazard.

Not that they couldn't slash the other one and make it vandalism, but most people don't know that.

Ur right, but hosing someone down is bound to provoke hostility from most.

My thought was, he's probably armed and already confrontational.

Tell your bro to get the dog a no-bark collar and use it before dog goes outside. I train my dogs early on this because a lot of people especially next door neighbors can get easily annoyed.

Your bro needs to have a talk with the neighbor and tell him that he is working on the barking and talk to each other if it is still a problem. He also needs to tell the neighbor that his aggressive actions will never be tolerated again. Don't engage in an argument leave it as a no misunderstanding with the neighbor.

I have seen these things escalate and it can get ugly. Dogs poisoned etc. All bad.

I think it is safe to assume that this dog has been barking for quite some time.

I think a noise complaint would have been a much better route to go. Less confrontational

There you go,you have to consider other people . You don't have to agree but,we all have a right.
I had such a neighbor with such a dog, noisy little thing. He would start yapping and I would walk up to the fence and face to face
with this dog. This dog would go crazy.Five minutes go by and the guy comes out to see what's going on?
I said nothing ,just looking and wandering why the dog is going crazy? this happened three times and the guy without a word got tired of getting up and seeing me taunt his dog into such a frenzy by doing nothing. He put his dog in his house and that was the end of it .

My Ex brought my Son back on Sunday afternoon with a diaper so full the it was falling off of him.
I was working in the yard and digging some post holes when She pulled in the drive. I had the hose in my hand as I was using the water to soften the dirt I was digging.
As I carried the hose back with me to turn it off I saw my Son, my Ex and this giant nasty diaper. I took my Son from her and the diaper literally fell off of him and hit the driveway.
I am disappointed I had so little self control, but I sprayed her with the hose all the way back to the car and out the driveway.
Later when the Depuity showed up, he actually thought it was pretty damned funny.

ron59 09-30-2012 12:06

He needs to buy one of those "stop bark" collars, that applies light shock when the dog barks.

I LOVE dogs. Love, love, love. But a dog that barks non-stop is a nuisance to everyone. I don't know how to get one to stop otherwise, but have to imagine that collar would. Some slight "pain" until he learns what the deal is, is worth peace and quiet for the neighborhood.

DanaT 09-30-2012 12:15

How is that owners of dogs that bark constantly cant hear their dogs barking?

If you have ever lived next a dog that barks, you know just how maddening it can be. Much of the time, these dogs bark at 5am or midnight. Something about not sleeping because of a neighbors dog barking for weeks on end makes me irritable.

If find it ironic that your brother does seem to care that his dog is bothering the neighbor with noise but when the neighbors makes noise (cusssing, barking, etc) he is offended.

It seems the solution is to control his dog...

NeverMore1701 09-30-2012 12:20

Set his house on fire.

Your brother's, not the hose sprayer's.

Can't stand people who let their dogs yap all the damn time.

hpracing007 09-30-2012 12:21

Man, I HATE dogs that bark all the time.

NDCent 09-30-2012 12:34

Where's a bucket of piss to throw over the fence when you need one.:dunno:

Keep the dog quiet(er), or move to the sticks away from any neighbors. Humans are overrated anyway.

shootnphil 09-30-2012 12:37

I have been the Crazy Neighbor before. I started by trying to talk to them about the dogs but they would not answer the door to have a friendly neighborly conversation. I then found their phone number and would call them when their dogs were out barking at 6am or 10pm and calmly ask them to remedy the problem, they would just ask me to quite harassing them ???. Then they just blocked my phone number.

That’s when I decided to let the Authorities handle it. I call the local Police Department and filed and Disturbing the Peace Complaint. I also filed a Nuisance Dog Barking compliant with the local Animal Control Department. It’s amazing how Quit and Peaceful it is now.

So now I try to be nice and talk to the Neighbor 1st then its on to letting the local Authorities handle things.

tehan2 09-30-2012 12:45

walk on over to the neighbors home and ring the bell. When the neighbor opens the door, unzip pants and hose down the neighbor

now with all that said, your brother is a ****** for letting his dog bark all the time

edit: why is the word "dou che" edited?
