Legal Barrel Length/Overall gun length?
I recently purchased a short barrel shotgun with a pistol grip. I am concerned as to the legal minimum length that is allowed.
Does anyone know what the minimum barrel length for a shotgun? As well as the minimum overall length from the end of the barrel to the end of the grip? |
18" barrel, measured from the breech face; 27" overall.
typo...should be 26" overall. |
18" barrel, 26" overall length.

Of course, a tax stamp makes shorter ones "ok."

+1 for 18'' Barrel for Shotgun. 26'' Overall for both.

But with flash suppressors welded on the barrel may be shorter on rifles. Is the shotgun a pistol or a "shotgun"? Classification makes a huge difference.

I think to be considered a ''pistol'' the ''shotgun'' had to come from the factory with a pistol grip installed and not a traditional buttstock.
I have an H&R and put a pistol grip on it. I chopped the barrel down to 21'' when it came across my mind that I forgot to measure OAL!! It even says on the grip "Use with 22'' barrel or longer" Anyways, it measures EXACTLY 26'' and that is only because the pistol grip is angled backwards a little as it goes down. Lucky thing. Then again, I could have just got a stock and chopped it down to 18''. |
