CCW & Hearing Aids
Any suggestions/advice on CCW & hearing Aids? I usually carry a Kahr PM9, Glock 19 or a Kimber 1911, all of which are loud. This Monday I got my first hearing aids, which make everything LOUDER. So you can forsee the question, should I ever have to use lethal force, what about my poor ears? Any advice or suggestions as to what to do would be appreciated.
Rhema, while the day is probably coming when I'll need hearing aids, I don't use them yet and therefore have no direct personal experience to share with you. I can tell you that my students who do wear them normally turn them off, and put on muffs to preserve what hearing they have left.
But, that's for the range. On the street, if you're under direct attack, you may indeed have some additional hearing loss if you have to fire under the circumstances you describe. But as you balance competing harms and needs, you have to ask one stark question:
How much am I going to hear in the grave?
You might want to take this over to Carry Issues or Tactics and Training and open a thread. There must be some audiologists, ENT professionals, and shooter people with hearing aids on GT who have more knowledge and experience to share with you on this.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help,
Aptly put Mas, and thank you for your response.
