nice. i am rebuilding one as we speak. got it free and the cartridge feed spring is bad. numrich has the parts that i need, cheap.

As a kid, I decided to detail strip my father's 66.....three words of advice....don't do it!

A nylon 66 is the only gun I've had to take to a gunsmith to put back together after I took it apart.

I had a Marlin Golden 39A, my buddies all had the 66. This was long ago when I was 9 years old.

Same here...after charging me $10 (a chunk of change for a 14-year old in 1978), the gunsmith said to me,
"Kid, don't ever do that again."

They are such nice looking guns. I remember looking through my old man's Remington catalogue and hoping that I would own one in Black (Apache Black?).

Most guys buy hot rods in their midlife crisis. That would be my midlife crisis gun.

I owned the model with a magazine when I was only 16. It shot great but did not like CCI stingers.

For some reason mine will always jam on the second shot (the first the feed system sends to the chamber after manually loading the first shell from the tube) unless I load one less than full, jack the bolt, and top it off. Then it works fine. Can't figure out why, but it works fine otherwise, so I put up with it.

I picked up this beater around Jan of 12 I think, for $125 +tax. Some gouges and no front sight. Put an old 4x15 scope on it then got a front sight and screws (no washers but worked w/o them) from Bob's Gun Shop for about $21 I think. I also have a 10C, it uses mags (got it for $30 :supergrin: )

ETA: The 66 is, I think around a 1964 model, no serial number.

nice, boy those rifles bring back some memories for me...one of the first guns I ever shot.

My very first rifle. Not sure when purchased. I think I was 16, around 1961 or so.

I just finished blueing my dads nylon, it had rust all over and it was no longer functioning. I took it to the gunsmith to see what it needed and I did the paint job I'm going to hand it to my pops tomorrow. He doesn't even know I have it.it was his childhood .22 he even killed deer with it back in the day.

Is that one the mag feed or tube feed?

I bought mine around 1972 for apx $75.00 NIB. A lot of Woodchucks lives have ended,Because of my nylon 66 (Apache Black ) model & the CCI stinger ammo. My only gripe with this gun is mounting a Scope on it is next to impossible? Due to the receivers groove on top of it.? A scope ring & base does not hold solid enough to stay on the gun,Without moving around a lot.? So I use it only with the open sights on it with good results out to 100 yds.

I went to a gun show recently and the asking prices for Nylon 66s, in OK condition, (I cannot be more specific as I did not waste my time with close examinations) were between $375 and $450. I was shocked.
