Enough With Zombies Already
I am getting really sick and tired of seeing zombie this and zombie that everywhere I turn in my LGS and outdoors stores. Zombie ammo (thanks Hornady), Zombie shotguns (thanks Mossberg), Zombie Blogs at Guns & Ammo, Zombie Slayer handguns (thanks Ruger)... ENOUGH.
What really is at the root and getting me riled up is that we're getting things that are not toys... real firearms and ammunition that are being marketed as novelties. All it's going to take is some idiot and a liability lawsuit for it all to come crashing down. Anyone trying to make a buck off of this marketing machine is just crass and reckless. None too soon either. The zombie fad will be gone none too soon for my tastes. |

Come on October!

I feel the same way about football. Still waiting on the fad to pass. Don't hold your breath.

yeah, just waite poltergeist will be the next big thing

I was having coffee/donut at my LGS last week, and the owner said that the Hornady Zombie ammo was hard to keep on the shelves. He makes $1.25 more per box and sells out every Friday night.
At the local indoor range (Discount Firearms in Vegas), the Zombie targets sell out the day the shelves are restocked. Amazing! |

I heard they are starting a Zombie channel on DISH. |
I heard about a range that has a "Zombie Night" where they set out zombie targets around dusk and then have some type of competition where shooters score points shooting them. Now that sounds fun.
I think the entire zombie thing is fun overall and good for the industry. People who are going to use it against firearms or the firearms industry would just find something else if not zombies. |
I suspect it is a silly fad of the twenty-somethings. I must admit it is retarded. However, I suspect it has its origins with the 2008 elections. That is when it first made its debut as referring to mindless drones that are willing to blindly follow any silly mantra without a great deal of thought.
If there is someone out there that is genuinely worried about actual zombies, then they are perhaps the most gullible people on the planet. |

I hate to break it to the OP, but Zombies are the hot new thing right now and may be for at least the next few years. Look back a few years ago, and remember how hot Vampire were. You had..
Twlight True Blood Anne Rice Novels Vampire Diaries Goth Kids in the Internet acting like Vampires Vampire related products Now that has all been replaced with Max Brooks - Zombie Survival Guide The Walking Dead The upcoming World War Z movie Zombie Squad Neon green and Zombie related products. |

I think people need to lighten up about the zombie meme. It really is not hurting anything so it is probably best to try to maintain a sense of humor about it.
IMHO just because we are not talking about toys doesn't mean we can't have fun with firearms. Obviously, some see things as crossing a line for them but obviously many don't. It is honestly just NOT worth getting riled up over. |
Zombies should NOT be treated as novelties. They are evil flesh eaters and should be treated as such. I blame the PC nonsense. We had to have green targets to qualify. I say lighten up.
|
But what if they ARE coming to get you Barbara?

I'm not taking any chances. Those walking dead do not take prisoners.. :)

Ahhh but COLT, yes Colt, made not only silver plated bullets, but an actual Vampire hunter gun. It was a high priced Special order of course. It came with a silver engraved Colt detective special, Carved silver plated bullets, a wooden stake/cleaning tool, and a jar for holy water all in a coffin shaped box. It was hot about 14 years ago. One set is on display at the NRA muesum. http://www.nramuseum.com/the-museum/...39;s-colt.aspx http://media3.washingtonpost.com/wp-...t01-256382.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r.../Vampire01.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r.../Vampire02.jpg |
What are you....some kind of "zombie sympathizer"?
Are you a colaborator? Are you...GASP....FRENCH? LOL...j/k. I know it has gone a bit silly...but as I explained to my wife...the "zombie" is basically a metaphor for bad guys period. Though I DO agree slapping "zombie" on everything is kind of tired. The same way as I HATE "tactical" getting slapped on EVERYTHING. I was SWAT for 14 years...and now that I am old, retired, and creaky...I don't consider MYSELF "tactical", and I don't have it plastered over everything I own. I leave that stuff for the high-speed-low-drag-operators in the insurance cubicles who have to make a "tactical exfiltration everyday at 1700 to their urban assault Subaru wagon" Let us have our zombie fun, and when it's all over...who knows...maybe we will have Bigfoot Ammo. |

Aw c'mon folks the OP has a point.
compared to people playing video games in their living room with simulated guns, and others playing other games with weird avatars swinging sword on a monitor, why shooting guns with ammo that comes out of funny looking boxes makes us look like we have nothing better to do. :whistling: |

Yes harley...there is a DEEP and abiding wrongness within me. Just thought I'd mention it.

I remember 10 yrs ago trying to get my local IDPA club to have a zombie stage, they balked at it saying it was too silly. Fast forward to the present (I quit shooting the match 5 yrs ago) and friends tell me they have zombie stages about every other month now.
