10mm 180 lead help!

Just got some 180grn truncated lead bullets. Anyone have some good loads for a 6 inch bbl. my powders ATM are power pistol, blue dot, longshot, and 2400. I have h110 but don't like using it due to clogging issues.

shotgunred 01-31-2012 20:45

A good load is subjective. But it is hard to beat power pistol for mid to high end loads.

Usmcfox 01-31-2012 21:07

I'm putting some range time in tomorrow need some load data

Never use a load off of an internet forum!

freakshow10mm 01-31-2012 23:22

H110/W296 is way too slow for the 10mm.

For Longshot, use 9.2gr at 1.250" OAL.

For lead, I suggest you buy WSF and run 6.0gr at 1.250" OAL.

Gokyo 01-31-2012 23:29

I have used mostly
AA-no.7
and
Blue Dot.

I have been very happy with both.

frank4570 01-31-2012 23:30

Power pistol.

Olympian5X 01-31-2012 23:56

I've always heard never use a lead bullet going over 1000ft/sec. I fouls the barrel the faster you push the bullet. Anyone else heard of this?

Yep, and it's BS. Think about the .22LR and it's lead bullet using low quality lube running 1200+fps. No fouling.

Many things come into play regarding lead fouling and velocity is not one of them.

noylj 02-04-2012 00:41

Wow, no ever loaded cast lead bullets in their .44 Mag, much less their .30-30 or .30-06?
With proper sized lead bullets and proper alloy for the pressure, you can take lead bullets up to 2200fps.
Go to the Cast Boolits forum.
Don't have much 180gn lead data, but here it is:

Wow not a lot lol that's more than I have ever seen

You may get more help over on the 10mm reloading forum on this site. I get my best accuracy in 180 grain from the medium powders like power pistol, longshot, bluedot, and good old Unique. My most accurate 10mm lead load is from a 145 grain SWC and power pistol. It's hands down the most accurate load I have ever concocted myself.

For lead shooting nothing better then polygonal rifling in Glocks, that type of rifling was orignally designed for very high end 22 caliber rifles and moved up to centerfire rifles. Shot lots of 180 HC L/RN & SWC in my 20 & 29's back in the day. The best for those in 180gr was Accurate #7, not sure of the amount w/o looking it up, but guessing about 10 grain range.

Can't beat Unique with cast bullets! 7.5 Unique with 180 TCFP lead in my g20 shoots great.

I used to say that, then I discovered Trail Boss. It does the light loads like Unique never could. Love those HC 240's only tripping along about 900-950fps, talk about accurate at 50 yards and under. Makes a great zombie load as you can shoot fast and still hold target in sights. I still use the U for other stuff, but general shooting and bell ringing the TB is king.
