Self defense shooting - both eyes open?

Hi Mas,

In martial arts I was trained to shoot with both eyes open.
I'm cross eye dominant, so this poses a problem for me.
I prefer to close my left eye, even though that's the dominant eye and I'm right handed. I like the natural modified weaver stance point shooting with my right eye open.

Your expert thoughts please.

Plus thanks so much for availability and quick response.
It's a pleasant surprise to have expert advice at my fingertips.

Have a great day and be safe.

Not only are you cross eyed dominant .... You are dyslexic! This is the GATE Glock Pistol Forum. Mas is in the GATE Self-Defense Forum.

With the above in mind.... I would like to throw in my 2 cents. If you use a two handed hold and square up to the target in an ISPC stance the cross eyed dominant issue should be moot.

Ops and Thanks 3X

Hi JR,

My apologies for posting in the wrong forum.
I actually am dyslexic – LOL!
Nevertheless, your advice makes good sense.

You have been quick and informative with my previous
“22 round mag” and “one in the pipe” questions as well.

So thanks three times!
And I’ll endeavor to be more careful posting in the future.

Have a great day and be safe!

Just pokein' fun at ya. Let us know what advise Mas provides?

Mas Responds

Mas response -
"I agree with you that it's best to keep both eyes open.

If your modified Weaver stance is the variation with gun arm locked out and support arm bent, also known as the Chapman stance, bring your chin to your gun arm bicep and the opposite eye will be directly in line with the dominant hand. No reason not to be using your dominant eye just because you're cross dominant."

Tried it today at the range and it works as advertised.
That's Mas for you - LOL!

Thanks for the range report. Now go back to the range and try the standard ISPC stance and let us know how it worked out? You will not have to put your chin on any part of your body and you will be able to quickly shoot a full 180 degrees without changing your footing

Range Report part II
Shooting better with ISPC stance.

But now for the weirdness.
Just for fun I decided to go back to modified weaver
and not use the sights at all.
Just muscle memory and point shoot.
We are talking just 7 yards, point blank, but Holly Molly.

I shot flat deadly like that.
Double taps through three big sticks.
The firepower of a G27 at close range is just outrageous.
It’s like a force multiplier with the big sticks.
feels like having two friends fighting with me!

I’m a third degree black belt. So just letting muscle memory take over
and destroying everything kind of makes sense to me – LOL!

BTW topping off the sticks at 22 and the G27 at 10 is working out great (as you said it would).
Thanks so much for your help and have a great day!
