Welcome To The Go Ask The Expert System
I doubt if many people would deny that the Internet is the single biggest source of information in history. If it has an Achilles heel, it is that it contains good AND bad information and it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate between the two. There are a lot of experts in given areas on sites like this, but there are also plenty of people who think they are experts. How does someone decide which is which?
This is a problem I have kicked around for many years and the best solution I can think of is to create a series of forums that will be chaired by acknowledged experts in their given fields. In these forums, anyone can start a thread asking a question. The thread will not go live until the expert/moderator for that forum answers the question. At that point, the OP and the moderator for that forum will be the only people that can respond to the thread, but everyone will be able to read it. Why format the place this way?
If you are an expert in a given field that might be of interest to readers here and would like to submit your name to chair a forum on that subject, please PM me with some info on yourself and the subject in question. Please do not submit this information here in a thread. PM it to me. The subject does not have to be about guns, or the shooting sports. It could be about just about anything. We would like to have a wide variety of GATE forums on everything from computers, to the Internet, or literature, music, medical, legal, home improvement, you name it. People here are firearms enthusiasts, but they are people, with all the interests anyone else would have. I have a half a dozen or so GATE forums to kick off with and I will be putting them up shortly. There might not be a lot of traffic at first, but I ask you all to check back regularly and watch the system grow. This is a new system and a new idea and the TOS and SOP here will be in flux for some time. If you have any feedback or suggestions for the format and operation of this area, please share them with me. Please feel free to share your comments here, but if you have any substantive suggestions to make, I would appreciate it if you PM'ed me with them. Thanks. Eric |
Sounds like a great idea! It'll make it so the question threads don't get so diluted with so many varying opinions.

Look, the experts in here will not be shilling their own products and if someone wants to get those varying opinions, they can still post their questions in the other forums. This place where a person can get a good answer for a specific question, but it does not have to be the only place they seek out information. It will however be a good place to start. Eric |

Great ideas you guys are having... sorry I posted in the other forum first, this one wasnt letting me post at the time. Huge technology nerd here to help:wavey: |
I have had a specific question I have wanted answered for a good bit of time now but wanted to avoid the armchair elite ,specifically the class3 realm. When will these or are they now open to posting? Is there a protocol on how you want this to work IE: take a number?
|
Best idea in a long time IMHO.
Might eventually attract back a few of the "celebs" of the gun world that have stopped by here for short or even long term stints. |

I think its a great Idea. It will keep the personal opinions from destroying threads such as Modified guns so the OP can actually get an answer.

Can we get another forum?
Self Defense Shooting (I am thinking the mental aspect after the shoot, and legal issues.) Additionally, I could easily see more than one expert for this forum. Are you setting it up so multiple experts could reply to a single thread? And yes I do have a question in mind. |
Good idea, Eric.
 |
Awsome. A place to get answers without being told to buy 20 different things to replace what you just want to fix. I like it.
And if we feel like a chit-chat, we can still ask on the main board. |
GREAT IDEA!
That's all I have to say about that. |

What is wrong with me?? |
It's a great idea! Certainly will cut down the "signal to noise ratio".

I can't wait to pose questions on the following topics:
9mm versus .45 ACP Why .40 S&W KBs How 10mm might end the world Glock versus 1911 Shotgun, Rifle, or Pistol for home defense Isosceles versus Weaver Clips and Magazines Why expensive guns come in cheap boxes Concealing/carrying in restricted areas without being caught Whether or not a "no weapons" sign was properly displayed Getting out of speeding tickets How to get a restraining order and/or stalking charges dropped How to make my Glock fully automatic When it is acceptable to brandish or threaten with a firearm   :wavey: |

I submitted a thread and it has not been posted or answered yet. That was about 2-3 weeks ago.
Any reasons why it hasn't been addressed? |
