Our city was one of the hardest hit by the housing crash. Good prices on houses are in no way an indicator of poor neighborhoods. There are pretty much no bad ares on the Cape. Ft. Myers (across the river) is where the bad areas are. If anything, just stay away from the downtown area of the Cape. That is the older area and thus, it is a bit more antiquated. Anything on the water will still drive a higher price. You have to be aware that the entire Cape pretty much became a suburb for those that work in Ft. Myers. All of the homes for the most part are respectable middle class stature. Most people live in the cape and work across the river in Ft. Myers. Most of the new or near new homes you are finding are most likely homes where the builder went bankrupt or they were only occupied for a short time by the original owner before they were foreclosed on.

I'm starting house hunting in the Cape or FT Meyers area. What general areas should I stay away from? I keep finding new or near new homes in the Cape Coral area for very reasonable prices. I assume they are outside of the actual city limits.
