I mentioned in my other thread, concerning the BPD officer down, that Rick McCubbin was an officer's chief. He's been there, done that here in Louisville. Chief McCubbin has been involved in a shooting here, way back when, after a Hispanic male tried to slice McCubbin (then an officer with the Louisville Police Department) with a knife

McCubbin's body armor stopped the knife. The attacker didn't fare so well against McCubbin's Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol. Oops. You know the saying about bringing a knife to a gunfight, right?

So, he went on to be President of their FOP Lodge, and retired after a nice career with LPD. After that, he was appointed the U.S. Marshal for our area (not sure of the district) by President Bush.

Despite the foray into the political arena as an administrator, Chief McCubbin has remained, in my eyes, as a man I would truly love to work for - and one who fully supports his officer. Here are two comments, made in the public eye and to the media, by Chief McCubbin during his tenure as Bardstown Police Chief. Judge for yourself as to what type of man he is:

http://www.nelsoncountygazette.com/?p=11835

Read the whole letter to the editor. It's worth it, and I can't copy/paste it, due to copyright issues.

And then, here's a quote from today:

"We have all the faith KSP will work alongside us to develop whatever information we can and I can assure you we won't give up on this person or person until we either have them in custody or in the front sight of one of our weapons. I certainly hope the latter is the choice," McCubbin said.

http://www.wave3.com/story/22422007/...led-identified

I wanna work for this guy, but I'm sure there's a long list of retirees and soon-to-be retirees lining up from his old agency. He's a cop's cop - and doesn't give a flying **** what the media thinks. He supports his officers, and knows what it's like to be a working cop.

Chief McCubbin - should you happen across this...keep it up, brother. I wish you could come back to Louisville, and make this a real PD. In the meantime, do what you do, and you have the best wishes, thoughts, and prayers from two officers (LMPD & LMDC) concerning your fallen officer.

Stay the course, sir.

For me the only real conveyance for a sardine is a soda cracker. I found a box of Zestas, split the oil with Charcoal the Cat, and am now happily replenishing my Omega 3 supply.

Are you concerned about being judged by God? Can you imagine standing before the universe and have every detail of your life open to all.

There really is no need to be worried about it. When Jesus comes again those who have chosen Him will already have been judged and any sins they have committed will never even be mentioned.

Ezekiel 18:21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Ezekiel 18:22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.

There is really only one sin that is unforgivable and that is refusing the calling of the Holy Spirit to accept amnesty.

Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Matthew 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

I have had one of the new 3 series the last few days and got a chance today to actually try it out well. It is a 320d Lux model.

A 2.0L TDI with the 8-speed automatic is a good combination. The car seems to always have torque and acceleration. The car had no problem accelerating to 125mph and went upto 140ish (with speedo error..so maybe 130-135) decent.

At around 100mph in 8th gear, the car was using a little under 5l/100km (47mpg) of fuel. That is not bad what so-ever for that speed and the ability to still accelerate decently.

I wasnt sure about the electric assist steering. It was perfectly weighted at all speeds. What was strange is the car has blind spot radar. So, if you turn on the blinker and a car is in the blind spot the steering wheel starts vibrating. It doesnt affect the steering, just the feel in the wheel. I am not sure if I like it or not. When passing and going back into the right lane, it is weird to have the steering wheel vibrate.

The car doesnt have a sport package but has the softer luxury suspension so I was skeptical. Really, it is just about a perfect blend of compression-rebound-andspring stiffness. The car never felt uncomposed, even up to 140. I probably did over 100 miles cruising along at 125mph+ and only once in a little curvy area did I think that it needed stiffer springs (or I needed to slow down).

Seats. It needs sports seats. The normal seats are very comfortable but have very little lateral support.

HUD. Very interesting feature. It works really well and to my surprise is not distracting. Even with dynamic speed limits, it always displayed the correct speed limit when the speeds changed. It was nice to have speed limits, other traffic regulations (i.e. no passing), and navigation displayed. What I didnt like, is the HUD really couldnt be seen with polarized sunglasses on. Also, it seems to have a very narrow head height that the HUD works. It seems like it perfect for someone about 5'6" and but the top gets cut off if head head is much above the steering wheel. Maybe I need to figure out how to adjust this because I cant imaging its made for only short people.

Here is the HUD.

All in al - I would rate the car -- 8.0 A 335d would up the rating to probably a 8.5 because of more power. But the low fuel consumption mixed with the acceleration, make the 2.0 hard to beat. The 8 speed always seems to be in just the right gear.

I still like the style of the Audis better, but I think driving dynamics for a sedan, BMW has it down perfect.

So I was down in the basement organizing some ammo, cleaning some guns, etc. and I started thinking about what I have and what I shoot. Now I've got lots of guns and shoot a lot of calibers.

Handguns include .22, .22wmr, .32, .380, .38, 9mm and .357

Long guns include .22, .22wmr, .223/5.56, .243, .270, 30-30, .35rem, .38/.357 and 7.62x39.

But there are three calibers obviously missing; .45, 30-06 and .308. So can an American gun collection be complete without these calibers? Should I go out and by one of each right now? I know I need a 1911 and I really like that new Sig SSG 3000. Maybe its time to go shopping?

Finally got around to cleaning my 1928 Mosin Nagant after the shooting sesseion last weekend. For those interested in Mosins, it takes about four hours to field strip and reassemble.

Now, for a rifle held together by two screws, one may wonder WHY it takes foure hours to field strip and reassemble. To satisfy those of curious mind:

Disassemble Mosin : five minutes

Initial patch cleaning through barrel: 10 minutes

Realizing there was more rust in barrel than originally thought : 15 minutes

Get serious about barrel scrubbing: 1 hour

Reassemble Mosin: five minutes

Realizing Mosin is not working: 30 seconds

Scratching head: five minutes

Disassembling Mosin: 5 minutes

Realizing bolt not coming off: 30 secs

Futzing around until bolt DOES come off: 10 minutes

Examining bolt, not knowing what to look for: 10 minutes

Watching bolt assembly fall apart in three pieces unexpectedly: 5 seconds

Thinking the weapon MUST be able to be put back together by a Russian peasant: 5 minutes

Realizing I am not as smart as a Russian peasant: 30 secs.

Figuring out how to reassemble bolt in the cocked position: 30 minutes

Put bolt back into receiver: 10 minutes

Realizing rifle still not working: 30 secs

Removing bolt: 10 minutes

Looking at trigger flopping around and wondering why it is not more secure: 10 minutes

Figuring out that floppy trigger may be part of the problem: 5 minutes

Figuring out trigger is flopping because of missing pin: 5 minutes

Remembering that no trigger pin was removed during strip: 1 minute

Working through curses and epithets in alphabetical sequence: 15 minutes

Searching picnic table for pin, going through used patches, checking nooks and crannies if cleaning boxes:15 minutes

Wondering where to find Mosin parts online: 30 seconds

Searching for yard magnet in barn:15 minutes

Sweeping work area with no success with magnet: 10 minutes

Wondering about confessing my inepitutude online and seeking advice:5 minutes

Doing another sweep with magnet until CLICK is heard: 10 minutes

Noticing wife suppressing chuckles of amusement: 5 minutes

Reinstalling trigger pin: 15 seconds

Noticing trigger no longer flops:5 seconds

Reassemble Mosin: 5 minutes

Testing action of Mosin: 5 minutes

Realizing CLP has now dried off all the bolt and receicer areas: 1 minute

Stripping Mosin and relubing everything: 1 minute

Reassembling Mosin: 1 minute

Acknowledging that practise helps in all efforts in life: 30 seconds

Function test of Mosin: 30 seconds

Deciding to quit while everthing is still working: 2 seconds

Note: some actions were occurring simultaneously, so the the chronical time is longer than actual clock time.

King George’s assault on the Americans’ natural freedoms was oppressive, intolerable and deserving of a revolution. The truth is, the intrusion, restriction and outright harassment that our government subjects us to today is far beyond what the colonists faced from their tyrannical king. Pritzker, who is a billionaire, supposedly “inadvertently omitted” this tiny part of her fortune. Her lawyer, Robert Rizzi, wrote the Commerce Department on May 21 that the money was not included in the May 15 filings that were reviewed by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics “because of a clerical error and through no fault of Ms. Pritzker.”

Over the course of his epistle, Obama repeatedly defended Islam as he has done so frequently in the past. In the process, the president continued to demonstrate his lack of understanding of global terrorism by reminding us that we must contain Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood and other terrorist organizations throughout the world.

As the president sees it, these groups are the enemy.

He is wrong. It is not just a group or two. Islam is the enemy. Not radical Islam, but Islam itself.

Does it really matter whether the London killer was Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah or Muslim Brotherhood? As Hillary Clinton might ask, “What difference does it make?” What matters is that the perpetrator(s) arbitrarily beheaded another human being in broad daylight in the streets of a major international city in the name of Islam.

What other religion in the world does such horrendous acts in the name of its faith? Name one. In most societies what happened in London earlier this week would be outright murder.

Not in the world of Islam.

There were times this past week when it seemed like the 19th-century Know-Nothing Party had returned to Washington. President Obama insisted he knew nothing about major decisions in the State Department, or the Justice Department, or the Internal Revenue Service. The heads of those agencies, in turn, insisted they knew nothing about major decisions by their subordinates. It was as if the government functioned by some hidden hand.

Clearly, there was a degree of willful blindness in these claims. However, the suggestion that someone, even the president, is in control of today’s government may be an illusion.

The growing dominance of the federal government over the states has obscured more fundamental changes within the federal government itself: It is not just bigger, it is dangerously off kilter. Our carefully constructed system of checks and balances is being negated by the rise of a fourth branch, an administrative state of sprawling departments and agencies that govern with increasing autonomy and decreasing transparency.

 Friend-

I wanted to alert you to breaking news about True the Vote and our ongoing fight with the IRS. We’ve been harassed and jumped through hoops for three years - and now the nation knows our story.

Today, we took action.

True the Vote’s attorneys filed a lawsuit against the IRS in Washington this morning. Our demands are simple: give TTV an answer to our tax-exempt application, and tell us who knew we were being targeted.

We have proven over the years that citizen engagement can change the way we operate our elections for the better. Today, we’re taking our culture of accountability straight to the heart of Washington.

This is going to be a major fight – but the truth will come out in court.

I need your help. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT OUR LAWSUIT.

We could not have picked a bigger fight – please let me know that you stand with us.

Onward-

I had my WASR-10/63 at the range this past Wednesday to try out my Slide Fire stock and it kept locking back every three or four rounds. I thought it was the mags or maybe not lubed enough so last night I gave it a good cleaning.

It still had the issue :crying:

This morning I remembered that I had a recoil buffer in one of my Norinco AKs and so I put it in the WASR.......

NO STICKING!

Has anyone else experienced this problem in your WASR-10/63?

How did you fix it?

Any info is much appreciated - have a great Memorial Day weekend! :patriot:

Hey all,

I'm in the process of backing up files on my desktop machine to do a miniISO install of Ubuntu 12.04 w/ LXDE. I did this on my laptop machine already. So, I transfer files to a USB stick and try to open them on my laptop. Non-encrypted files open fine. When I try to open files that are encrypted with Seahorse from my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop, on my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop with LXDE, it asks me what I want to open them with. So, I select an appropriate app and instead of asking me for the pword like it does on the 10.04 machine, it simply doesn't open the file.

I went to Synaptic and isntalled one of the the Seahorse apps listed there and it didn't change anything. Also, on 10.04 using the GUI it came with (GNome?), I can right click on a file and it will give me an option to encrypt it or decrypt it. There is nothing showing on LXDE when I try this.

I am left with the fact that at this point, if I do my Ubuntu 12.04 with LXDE install on my desktop, I will not be able to open my encrypted files since it won't work on a machine I have already set up like this. Can Seahorse be made to work with LXDE? Should I decrypt the files before backing them up and then find a new way to encrypt them once the machine is set up? I prefer to use Seahorse since it has worked simply for me up to this point. If it is not a workable solution, what other encryption system is simple to use? I am not a CLI guy, I need a simple GUI to encrypt and decrypt my files.

I don't need ulta-high level encryption. This is just typical homeowner stuff that wouldn't want "regular" people to see. I'm not dealing with crucial classified information or anything like that. Just tax returns etc.

Armed robbers bust in, employee escapes out the back door.
That should be good enough, but he spots an unoccupied car with the engine running, so he hops in and drives it away.
When the bad guys come out, it's "Dude, where's my car?" and "Cheese it, the cops!" and take off running thru a field and get caught.

No details as of yet, not even a name. I'll post more when there's an update, but it seems a BPD officer was shot and killed, off duty but in uniform on the way home from shift.

Bardstown is not far from here, and the chief is a retired LPD officer who strongly supports his own officers. Rick McCubbin is also a former U.S. Marshal (not deputy - THE Marshal) and from all accounts, is a stand up guy and a great boss.

Hope the suspect dies a painful (and slow) death. Just saying.
When President Obama told a black audience years ago that black men needed to be better fathers the response from Rev. Jesse Jackson was to criticize him for talking down to black people and whisper that he deserved to be castrated.

Now the president has done it again.

Speaking at graduation ceremonies at Morehouse College in Atlanta last weekend the President said it is time to stop using racism and discrimination – though they still exist – to excuse bad personal decisions that block success.
ROMANO: I think it just came to another boiling point right now. [Obama] ran on this in 2008, and if you recall, when he came into office, there was a lot of turmoil within the White House. His then-counsel, Greg Craig, was pushing to close Guantanamo; he set a date that they couldn't meet, and it ended up being a really bad political tar baby for him.

Tar baby is considered a racially-coded, derogatory term, especially when used in reference to black Americans. Since the arrival of President Obama on the national scene, left-wing media outlets like Politico have relentlessly attacked conservatives as racist for merely using the word Chicago.
