Hello-all. I went to our local gun show today in Asheville,NC. It was not crowded like when we had the panic buying, so was a little nicer milling about. I was pleasantly surprised that the prices did not seem to be that bad. If you needed mags or ammo, there was plenty.
I picked up some .223 for $8 a box, no not the best deal, but better than i expected. They had more rifles and polymier pistols and supplies than any thing else. More tarues and lots of sig's. 1911's they had several Remingtons, Springfield range gun, a Sig zombie, and a couple of Colts at a fair askin price. Over all did not see much gun buying though, i picked up some ammo and a military wood ammo box. Nice day though even with the crappy weather.

You're a sick senior citizen and the government says there is no nursing home care available for you. So what do you do?
Our plan gives anyone 65 years, or older, a gun (G) and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot four Politicians.

Of course, this means you'll be sent to prison, where you will receive three meals a day, a roof over your head, central heating and air conditioning, cable TV, and all the health care you need.

Need new teeth? No problem. Need glasses? That's great.
Need a new hip, knees, kidney, lungs or heart? They're all covered.

As an added bonus, your kids can come and visit you at least as often as they do now.

And who will be paying for all of this? The same
government that just told you they can't afford for you to go into a home.

And, you can get rid of 4 useless politicians while you're at it.

Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income taxes anymore.

Is this a great country or what?

Overview:

The Bravo Concealment DOS (Drop Out of Sight) Holster is a well constructed kydex IWB holster. The specific holster I reviewed was made for my Glock 23 gen 3. The holster has the option of being shipped with either soft belt loops or kydex J-hooks. On my holster I opted for the kydex J-hooks.

Construction:

Bravo concealment uses a strong .06 inch thick kydex that is textured on the outside and smooth on the inside. The holster is made of two kydex half shells that are attached at four different points. The soft belt loops or J-hooks are attached to the holster using the same four points. The overall construction of the holster is outstanding, the materials and craftsmanship is excellent.

The DOS holster fits my Glock 23 perfectly. Right out of the box the holster fit my gun like a glove. The retention is excellent, the gun does not fall out of the holster when shaken up-side down even with the weight of a fully loaded magazine in the gun. Also, the holster is quite, it does not click, rattle or squeak.

Comfort:

When I first tried on my DOS Holster I was not impressed with the comfort of the product. I carry at about the 4:00 position. Over about a week, I was able to work with the holster and figure out how it most comfortably carries for me. Surprisingly I found that using a rigid belt was the primary source of discomfort. I normally wear a very rigid belt that with other holsters improves comfort however I discovered that using a more flexible belt greatly increased the comfort with my DOS holster. Since using the holster with a flexible belt, I have been much happier and I decided not to send the holster back.

Drawing and re-holstering from the holster is fast and smooth. The holster stays open under the pressure of the belt allowing for one-handed re-holstering. I find that the .06 inch thick kydex is thin enough to keep the package small but strong enough to keep the holster open.

One complaint I do have is that on the inside of the holster there is a small protrusion of kydex about an inch from the slide stop lever (see pictured). This protrusion digs into my side and becomes irritating. I have found that with a tucked in undershirt the irritation is less but still noticeable. This problem is easily solvable with a dremel tool or file and sandpaper.

Concealability:

I am on the skinny side at 5’9” and 140lbs and the bravo concealment holster conceals my mid-sized Glock 23 without any issues. I can wear shorts and a T-shirt and the gun is concealed. The holster holds the gun tight to my body while allowing me a full grip on the gun.

Improvments:

One improvement that I think Bravo Concealment could add to the holster would be adjustable cant angle and ride depth. I do find the ride depth comfortable but the option to change it would be an appealing feature to many people. I would however like to be able to adjust the holster to have a slight forward cant.

Overall:

I would recommend this holster to those looking for an all kydex IWB holster. However, at $70 and a 10 – 12 week wait, I do not plan to order another DOS holster. If the mentioned improvements were made without a price increase than I would consider another DOS holster but until then I would rather save the money and wait and try other manufactures such as Alabama Holster Company or PJ Holsters.

I sometimes need to do some specialized soldering away from a power outlet, on heavier wire connections (10-gauge or sometimes a little larger).

There are a number of small, more-or-less pocket-size torches available now that use small butane cylinders sold in drug and department stores for refillable cigarette lighters.

All of these torches I've tried are cheap and flimsy..
Anyone know of a quality unit, more of a pro-grade tool?

I'm not looking for a typical butane soldering iron, unless it's a heavy-duty tool.. Not a pencil-type soldering iron..

An open-flame torch will do, if it's a small pinpoint flame.
But, that wasn't deemed to be enough to get Benghazi off the front page, so a second back-fire was started by the Justice Dept. The Associated Press received a letter from the DoJ on May 10th (Friday) detailing the seizure of AP phone records.

Quote:

The truth is plain to see. Obama fears further media attention focused on Benghazi hearings and what remains to be uncovered. He fears this so much that he used TWO back-burning scandals to take the media's focus off of the Benghazi testimony of the whistle-blowers. Clearly, Obama feels that his very presidency is threatened. So, what is there yet to uncover? We shall see.

I went to the gun show today looking for some 7.62x39 ammo. Found it and a good deal on a S&W M&P MOE 5.56 that I could not walk away from. Well I might have walked away from it, but after my brother bought it ( they had 2 ) . I went back after I had looked at everything to buy the other one, but it was gone. Their was another dealer there that had one at the same price so I bought it, along with a couple of pmags and 1000 rds. of ammo.

I might have to that a break from these forums and gun shows for awhile. I found out last night my roof is leaking.

I have read that people have sent their Gen 2/3 Glocks back to Glock to either have the frame upgrade from Gen 2 to Gen 3 for the addition of a light rail or because they messed up their frame due to a poor stippling job. So my questions in regards to that is, could I send a Gen 2 Glock in and have Glock upgrade it to a Gen 4 for a fee instead of just upgrading it to a Gen 3 frame? The only reason I could see this not being possible is the fact that the slides and frames do not work going from Gen 2/3 to Gen 4 thus Glock would have to replace the entire firearm..

So, my kid and his girlfriend, who both go to RIT, are stuck in town with no place to stay. The kid they were supposed to stay with til their flight leaves on monday had their family show up for a surprise visit, so his accomodations fell apart.

He tells me he may be able to find someone else to stay with, but it's still up in the air, and because it is graduation weekend, every hotel around is full.

Just curious if anyone has any ideas or might be willing to help.

Not quite sure what or how or if the new laws in NJ may effect our travels. We have quite a few new competitors coming with us this season but none to Jackson as they are afraid of traveling into NJ
I look foward to seeing the Jersey glockers and the rest of the people.
I don't have a Blue Book handy so if you wouldn't mind and have the spare time, could you look this up for me and give me an idea as to the worth of this pistol my buddy found in a run down country store out in the sticks?

It's either a S&W Model 1 in 22 rimfire or a S&W Model 2 in 32 rimfire. He's getting his pics to send them to me to try and see exactly what it is.

Assume it is in probably 80%.
Thanks for the help and your time
I recently saved an image of the PC and verified that I can restore the computer to the current state / settings. The computer is acting up and I'm afraid that it's hardware releated. I happen to have another dell 530 that has a wiped drive, only difference is that the processor is an E4600. I used Clonezilla to make the image and was wondering if I can just restore the image to the other computer? Or will that not work?
I grab her phone to give it to her, but pause for a second to look at her wallpaper pic. She thought I was reading her text, and totally flipped out. Diving across the couch to snatch it from my hands. She explained it away as her friend needing privacy, and assured me it was no big deal. She has since passworded her phone, claiming that her and her friend talk about private things and her friend deserves her privacy.

So after toying with the idea for some time now I finally decided I am going to give making kydex holsters a shot. I have no plans of getting rich, just hope to sell enough holsters to cover my cost. For those of you that are already in the business I am looking for some helpful suggestions on starting out. Between myself and my shooting buddies I have plenty of popular guns & mags to start molding so finding cheap kydex is my my first priority. I've priced out everything based on items from both knife kits.com & harbor freight & my initial cost are pretty minimal but finding ways to cut it down even further is never a bad thing. What are your thoughts?

Hi Mas, Just watched a NRA sanctioned SD video and on a home security segment the instructor demonstrated leaving a "Nightstand" firearm in a a secure location (left up to you, but showed a couple small safes) and emphasized making sure the gun was unloaded and in the case of a semi-auto, magazine out (possibly in a different location) stating that it takes very little time to load & get into action and storing this way is safer. He also insinuated that the sound of chambering a round may even scare off the threat. On an otherwise creditable lesson I thought this was not good advise. I am no expert, but being a combat veteran I know the time it takes to"Lock & Load" can take you out of the fight and giving away your position before you're ready is also a bad idea. Knowing your take on CCW with one in the pipe I would think your take on Home Defense would be the same, or would you think differently for this situation?
Respectfully, David

Holster fit for Ruger DA revolvers

I have gotten into revolvers, Ruger in particular, and have encountered holster issues for SP101 and GP100. Bianchi and others pass off the same holster for Ruger and S&W but fail to account for the Ruger's protruding or squared frame under the cylinder, just ahead of the trigger guard. Holsters with thumb snaps will not close because the gun has not gone all the way in.

My GP100 is a limited edition 5", so I only found a holster offer of the exact length from Falco (made in Serbia). I am trying to avoid the extra length of the standard 6", because it extends below the concealment clothing.

In the interim, waiting for delivery, my Galco DAO for the 4" Redhawk .45LC handles the GP100 well enough, given the retainer strap. The barrel sticks out an inch though.

I have been unable to find a suitable cross draw holster for the SP101 3 1/16" .357 Magnum, so I carry the bigger gun on the cross draw side. A strong side holster for the SP101 is doable, but not the dual purpose holsters or cross draw only. Falco offering was not satisfactory because the grip presentation stuck out too far.

My point is to share experience and to get tips on other options.

Mr. Ayoob:

I am a non-LEO, long time CCW holder in my early 60's. I have carried concealed practically every day since 2001, mostly a j-frame Centennial in a Mika pocket holster or a Glock 19/26 in Condition #3 on my belt. I am exploring the possibility of transitioning to a full size, 5 inch, all steel 1911. (I know, I know... still thinking it through). My question is:

What is wrong with carrying a 1911 cocked & unlocked with an empty chamber and a full magazine inserted? Sort of Condition #2.5.

Seems I'd have an easier slide to rack without having to overcome the hammer and a better trigger on the 1911 than the j-frame or the Glocks.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

In a checklist obtained by The Daily Caller entitled “Countering Violent Extremism Dos and Don’ts” the DHS’s Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties notifies local and national law enforcement officials that it is Obama administration policy to consider specifically Islamic criticism of the American system of government legitimate.

This policy stands in stark contrast to the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis’ 2009 memo “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” [pdf], which warned of the dangers posed by pro-life advocates, critics of same-sex marriage and groups concerned with abiding by the U.S. Constitution, among others.

The advice of the Dos and Don’ts list is far more conciliatory. “Don’t use training that equates radical thought, religious expression, freedom to protest, or other constitutionally-protected activity, including disliking the U.S. government without being violent,” the manual’s authors write in a section on training being “sensitive to constitutional values.”

The manual, which was produced by an inter-agency working group from DHS and the National Counterterrorism Center, advises, “Trainers who equate the desire for Sharia law with criminal activity violate basic tenets of the First Amendment.”

The checklist also advised against using moderate Muslim “trainers who are self-professed ‘Muslim reformers’” because they “may further an interest group agenda instead of delivering generally accepted, unbiased information.”

The Homeland Security document also seems to discount evidence unearthed by the Justice Department about the aims of some mainstream Muslim organizations, warning law enforcement not to rely on “unsubstantiated theories” and “conspiracies,” such as the belief that “many mainstream Muslim organizations have terrorist ties” or are “fronts for Islamic political organizations whose true desire is to establish Sharia law in America.”

I have had this new G19 for a week but no time to fire it. I didn't get anxious because I pretty much knew what to expect. With three kinds of ammo it was flawless. Ejection pattern was good from round one, and the gun is accurate. I did have to put on the medium back strap after the first 10 rounds, which makes me wonder if I should maybe have saved some money and got the Gen 3. But this gun shoots beautifully, and it will probably become a carry gun, sharing time with my Sig. There is nothing more boring than a Glock. They seem to shoot every time, and they shoot straight. They hold a bunch of bullets and they aren't heavy.

I'm new to shooting and want to clean my guns. I have two glocks and a ruger 22/45. I want to clean and lube them all. I know I can find videos on YouTube on how to disassemble the ruger and also how to clean them. But what I'm wondering is what do I need to buy as far as lube and anything else I would need? Will one type of gun lube work for both the glock and the ruger? I'm sure YouTube videos would have the persons opinion but I thought I'd ask here for a round table discussion.

Feel free to voice opinions, products, links to old posts with similar topics or videos on the subject. Thanks all!

1st Attempt at Casting

Hello guys. I've came to you before for advice and for the most part, always been pushed in the right direction. So I need some help in my latest endeavor.
Picked up some molds for .452-200 gr RF from Midway a while back. I have accumulated quite a bit of range lead as well as wheel weights. After a couple of failed attempts, finally began churning out perfect lead bullets. Lubed them with Lee liquid alox, ran them through .452 sizing die and relubed them.
Loaded up my first batch (using Bullseye) in 10 round groups. Don't want to mention my charge weights but will give my chrono'd velocities. Shot each group, check and cleaned barrel, repeat.
1st Group Average - 846/fps
2nd - 867
3rd - 891
4th - 926
5th - 952
When testing new loads, I usually don't start with 10 rnds each, but I wanted to get some idea of whether or not my barrel was leading. First, there was leading in every group, not one in particular worse than any other. Second, I noticed velocities dropped consistently from first shot to last, I'm assuming from the leading itself. Third, accuracy was pretty good with all loads (good enough for range fodder). Recoil however, was pretty stout.
As far as the barrel leading goes, it wasn't severe by any means. Removed all traces with only a copper brush. It almost looked more like the Alox than actual leading although there was definitely some lead in there.
All in all, I was quite happy that I was able to finally shoot bullets that "I" made. My questions are...
What to you think is causing the leading? Am I just pushing these bullets to fast. How important is BHN in casting? Using recycled range bullets and wheel weights(about a 1 to 3 ratio), should these bullets be hard enough? Where can you purchase tin, antimony, flux and any other bullet casting components?
Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Last thought, I have never shot anything that produced as much smoke as these rounds did. Would that be a product of the lube, the lead or what? And they were LOUD!
