Our fight lands in Bangkok on December 1st, and we will be there 11 days.
We are debating on how long to stay there the whole time, or whether to take a train down to ph.uket, Thailand for part of it.

Does the GT brain-trust have any thoughts on this?

Monday morning I went to my parents' farm to oversee the work on the house I'm rehabbing so I can live there. On the way to the house you have to go past the barn where I had been doing my reloading until I could get them to finish my house. I stopped... looked... and my heart fell through my shoes... I screamed an animal cry of rage, pain, and loss all at once. :crying::steamed::crying::steamed:

Sunday night a large system of thunderstorms moved through our area. Lightning hit my dad's barn and burned it to the ground with ALL of my reloading gear and components in it. I had slowly built up a very nice selection of rifle bullets, pistol moulds, powder, primers, tooling of all kinds, and some shooting accessories. I don't even want to THINK about what it would cost to just go out and buy it all.

I went through the morning until lunch just in a state of shock and pain. Then at lunch time I was telling one of the guys working on my house that I wish Jack were around to talk to about it. Then it hit me... Jack would have just shrugged and rebuilt.

Now, I'm mostly over the shock and anguish of it. And I'm looking forward to rebuilding my reloading empire!

Bought three boxes (the limit) of Tulammo 223 at Walmart tonight. Pre-panic price of $5.27/20 rds. It may have only been $4.99 before, can't remember. But they could be selling it for twice as much now and it'd sell.

I just wish I could get more than 60 rds/day. It is on my way to work, so if it stays on the shelf, I can stock up slowly I suppose. Plus, I'll ask my gf to pick me up some too.

In any case, that ammo in stock, along with a Colt 6920 priced at $1097 in stock, tells me that the panic is definitely getting closer to over. Thankfully..... the weather is nice and I'm ready for some serious shooting...

Cheers!

Found another deal I couldn't pass up on two older S&W revolvers. The first is a 5 1/2" barreled 17-3, and the second is a 6" barrel 19-2. They are both in very good shape with the only wear spots being holster wear on the sides of the ends of the barrels. The seller wanted to keep em together as a sort of set so I gave him $1200 for the pair. The bluing looks like it could drip off of em, I'll have to get better pics later tomorrow night. I've never had a .44 before so it'll be fun to see how it shoots.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could tell me which years they were made. The serial number on the 19-2 is N63XXX, and the 17-3 is 6K10XXX.

What do you guys think? I think I did pretty well price wise...

I got lucky enough to win my first prize pistol (Random) at the Carrollton, TX Match this year. I was looking at the form and I think I want to go with the Gen4 Glock 34. So is there only the $35 gen 4 upgrade fee on that or is there an additional fee. It looks like the gen 3 34 costs $107 upgrade, but that comes with Adjustable sights and the - connector. The Gen 4 lists fixed sights and 5lb trigger so does that mean the only fee is the Gen 4 fee or will I get hit with both fees?

Thanks for any help that can be provided, I am so excited to have finally won one after my 3rd year of competing here in Dallas.

I proceed to look it over. Mag is shredded, chunk of the frame is missing to where you can see the trigger bar working, frame cracked from the missing chunk all the way down past the mag release.

Dealer showed me the ammo the owner was using. Ultramax 9mm 115 grain fmj. One of the casing was split approx. half way around the casing right above the extractor groove.

What can I do as an armorer to help this gun out? Thanks in advance.

The recent threads about equipment lists and the number of divisions entered got me thinking how most of you deal with all that equipment on the road.

For instance, I am going to overnight one night for the Dawsonville match. As far as personal stuff I'll only be carrying a single change of clothes, my diddy bag for meds and toothbrush and my CPAP machine. But even only entering two divisions I'll have the 17 and probably 450 rounds along with other gear in the car.

I wouldn't consider leaving the gun in the car overnight especially since it will fit in easily with the one clean shirt but I really don't want to lug all the other gear into room.

What do the rest of you do?
I purchased a .45 ACP pistol today from a nice gentleman in a grey Mini Cooper S. He seemed nice enough and in the course of the small talk I failed to inspect this pistol as thoroughly as I would normally. I felt he was knowedgable enough to be believed on function and seemed sane at the time. I purchased the pistol and left.

The pistol is fantastic. What was not was the .45 caliber bullet lodged halfway down the barrel. Not sure if he was an idiot or a homicidal lunatic. If I had not purchased that gun, some one else may have taken it straight to the range and loaded up a magazine and proceeded to blow the gun and themselves up.

We have all popped a squib load that lodged halfway...but to leave one in and SELL THE GUN is criminally negligent at best, psychotic at worst.

But it gets better.

When I got the bullet out...it was never fired. Brand new bullet hadn't seen powder, case or primer. He just took a Speer jacketed hollow point and jammed it up the bore.
I believe he fully intended to blow this gun up. And the new owner with it.

Interpret as you will. But please tell your gun friends...
Check your gun purchases carefully before firing.
Keep emails and phone numbers of sellers to assist authorities of these 'booby trapped' guns.

Always get ID and bill of sale.

I got the emails and license plate number for OSP and BATF so they will hopefully check on this potential psycho anti-gun terrorist.

I am looking to hook up 2 case fans to provide air circulation in the canopy of my fish tank. I plan on buying two of these.

I need to provide a power source and the manufacturer hasn't responded to my request for info on what kind of power supply I could use.

Some people have recommended generic 12V/2A AC adapters off EBay, but I'd like to keep my out of pocket expense to a minimum.

I threw out a broken Wii a couple years ago, but kept the power supply because, well, I figured it might be useful someday. It is a Class 2 supply rated to put out 12VDC at 3.7A.

Will I be able to use this supply to power 2 fans?

Should I wire them in series or parallel?

Thanks for the help!

I received an old .45 cal T/C Hawken muzzleloader as a gift.
It has a double trigger set up.

One trigger is a "set trigger." You're supposed to pull it back and it sets the primary trigger for an extremely light release.

Does anyone know how this is supposed to feel?

On mine, the set trigger clicks when you pull it, but doesn't lock back, and I can't feel any discernible difference in the primary trigger.

I have the manual, and there's a set screw to adjust the set trigger, but before I go fooling with it, I was wondering if anyone knows what it's supposed to feel like. Is the set trigger supposed to lock back when you pull it?

I know we beat the 22 rifle for survival to death. It is either the best thing there is or the worse. One thing that usually pops up during a discussion about using a 22 for self defense is that the Israelis used a suppressed 10/22 to shoot protesters during the intifada (Palestinian uprising). The tactic was to shoot protesters in the groin as a non lethal method of discouraging them. Unfortunately the femoral artery is in the groin area and more than a few rock throwers died. Made the Israelis look bad so they stopped using it for riot control.

Here is one of the more famous photos of the Israelis 10/22s from back in the day.

They apparently did not stop using the 10/22 for other things however, like sniping. Here is a photo from a Palestinian newspaper from Feb 2013. Same guns, different optics, even using a hi-cap mag. The Pals were complaining that the Israelis are now using the 10/22 as a sniping rifle to murder innocent people silently.

You have to admit that a quiet shot in the right place from a 22 has some advantages.

Why do people sing the praises of others who they perceive to be wealthy, but live in modest houses, drive older vehicles, wear normal clothes, etc? Why shouldn't rich people live a more lavish lifestyle than Joe Average? What makes the loaded guy who drives a ten year old pickup better than the guy with the same amount of money who drives a brand new Porsche?

Per my other recent thread, I will be in the market for a new F150. It looks like the ecoboost gets 2-3 mpg better than the 5 liter v8. But the ecoboost adds $1000 to the price. I only put 6-8k miles on my truck per year so I'm wondering if its worth the expense.

I rarely tow so torque isn't that much of a consideration. Does the ecoboost / turbo charger necessitate more frequent oil changes? Any real world stories from ecoboost owners?

In view of the recent Supreme Court ruling, sales of this new product may skyrocket.
Washington thinks they are going to take away our guns, so check this out. I like it!

And yes, I am 110% sure that I am not hitting it with my thumb. I shot it left handed and let someone else shoot it too.

Here is the kicker, it was only happening with 135 grn JHP and it has never happened before today. I picked up a box of Sierra 135 gr JHP and loaded them in brand-new Starline brass and brought them with my 180 gr cast rounds. I had a few issues with the slide locking back and noticed it was only the 135 gr loads. I started switching back and forth between 180 and 135 and it always happened with the 135. I also tried alternating the mags to rule that out as well. It only happens with the 135.

Have you guys ever experienced anything like this? It was rather odd

I was out at a nice dinner with my family, when the waiter stepped behind my chair with a tray full of drinks, specifically kir royales and a Sprite. He lost balance with the tray, and all the drinks landed squarely on my back.

I was wearing an untucked golf shirt made of microfiber material over khakis and my gun belt, which held my MTAC Minotaur IWB and my G23 at 3:30. The drinks passed through the shirt with zero resistance and dumped right on my pistol and then into the gap right down the back of my pants. It was, um, refreshing!

When I got home, everything seemed like it was dry, but when I pulled the mag, it was wet on the sides. Further, over the next day, dust and lint was collecting in the groves more than usual. I knew I was going to have to open her up and take a look under the hood.

With each part I removed, I found more and more places wet. I ended up having to do a complete detail strip, disassembling everything (except the sights) down to the smallest components. There was sticky sweet liquid in every nook and cranny. I gave everything a bath in hot water and Simple Green, scrubbing everywhere with a toothbrush, then blew them all out with compressed air. Put it all back together, six drops of lube, fresh ammo, and she's GTG.

I don't think there's really a moral to the story. Just thought I'd share.
