I just got back from a short family vacation to Broward / Miami Dade county. While on our way to the beach I had a wild thought... Since I am in a tourist area plus a very liberal area I should check out the ammo counter at Walmart since there may be lower demand there. I found the promise land. Every day on the way back to the hotel I stopped in and got my 3 box limit of 50 round .223 Remington (both fmj and jhp) and am now a very happy man.

I just traded in my Steyr C9A-1 on a FDE Gen4 G34!!! I'll call him DOO-DOO BROWN, Baddest Glock in My Hometown! :tongueout:

It's a target model with adjustable sights, 4.5# trigger, Beavertail Grips... The only thing I'm kinda steamed :steamed: about is the extra grips (which I won't use) weren't in the packaging. They were displaying it in the case apparently with them installed. A Gen4 G17 was sitting next to it with them installed.

Always wanted a FDE, I personally think they look better than the OD GREEN...Born Date 4/29/13
Serial # VDBxxx... Pics coming shortly! :wavey:

www.repairclinic.com

Our GE dryer started squeaking a little...then worse & worse. So I look online, take it apart, and look at the common causes. Funny, I inspect the belt...looks great.

Then I go to inspect the front glide pads. 3 of the 4 pads are gone :wow: Worse yet, I look at the front drum bearing and notice the areas where the glide pads go...it's almost completely worn through.

All new glide pads, new front drum bearling, and light bulb...$48.

I like to think that I have a little automotive mechanical skill. Unfortunately, I purchased a 2005 Ford Taurus back in 2005... Other than having to replace the altinato, I've had to do nothing to the engine except basic maintenance. (Oil, tire, belts, spark plugs, et al.)

Unfortunately, I'm starting to run into problems. (I'm going to skip the issues with replacing the radio because I'm pretty weak at electrical issues all in all.) Today I tried to recharge the AC. (It's not cold.) Ran the engine, turned the AC on max, and hooked up the refrigerant to low-side service port. Should have been good, but when I hit the button there was no flow of gas into the system.

So... What is the problem that I'm looking at? I don't have a tool to check the pressure in the AC system. (I'll need to pick one up tomorrow.) I'm hoping it's not a mechanical problem, as I prefer a cheap solution. But if I can't recharge the AC...

Simple question. You needn't name every movie you happen to like, no number or order requirements, they don't even need to be that good. Just among the movies you'll watch over and over and enjoy every time.

Here are some of mine.

The Avengers
One of the highest HSQs of any movie I've ever seen. It's just fun to see that many wonderful characters together.

The Matrix
Still an excellent piece of innovative filmmaking. Maybe not as mind blowing in the writing department today, but fun to watch, and shows that cyberpunk is still going strong.

Blade Runner
Combining two of my favorite genres, Cyberpunk and Film Noir. How could I not love this?

Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome
Just so freaking silly. "Bust a deal, ya face the wheel."

Conan the Barbarian
Truly an epic piece of film, that too many overlook.

Terminator 2
An excellent action movie that just happens to be well thought out as well, and asks a few hard questions about the nature of free will.

Star Trek 2
Themes of revenge, friendship, aging, loyalty, and death. A true masterpiece.

Rocky 4
Not the best rocky, but by far the most fun.

Hobo with a Shotgun
You say grindhouse slop, I say high art.

Sin City
It's because of this film that I discovered my love of film noir.

The Secret of NIMH
Not only among my favorite animated movies of all time, it's one of my favorite movies of all time period. When I was a kid I watched this so many times I wore out the tape. And when was the last time anyone used the phrase "wore out the tape."

Highlander
Forget James Bond, I will remember Sean Connery as Remirez.

What are some of yours?

I've been trying to find a PPS to get a feel for, and the XDs 9 will be available whenever Springfield is in the mood... So I almost bought a Shield yesterday, then today I almost went back to the show today to buy it again.

How many of you have settled for a firearm you could find instead of waiting for something to be available?

I like the adjustable backstraps of the PPS (big hands).

I like the grip safety of the XDs. I handled the 45 and it felt good.

I'm not a fan of physical safeties, but the Shield did feel good in the hand, and it was readily available...

So, who's fallen to temptation?

I wish Glock had a single stack model with the same size of the 26!
The anti-self defense zealots will strip the birth Rights of your Children strait out of the gate.
Using multiple references to back up these opinions and the systematic way anti-gun zealots will disarm Americans, it is clearly not by chance.

Anyone have a shotgun or rifle mount in a tahoe, and if so how do you like it? My department is looking at mounting either shotguns or rifles up front, finally. Problem is, I drive a tahoe with an American Aluminum K9 insert where the slide open door on the kennel is between the passenger seats. Also, with the MDT mounted closer to the passenger seat, a floor mount wouldn't be practical. Does anyone make a mount that bolts to the roof? Everything I've seen either mounts to the cage or to the passenger side floor. Help a brother out, Im tired of just throwing the shotgun in the passenger seat to slide around.

Mas,

The recent tragic situation with the Hofstra University student got me thinking about the "hostage rescue shot."

In this case the early reports state the officer fired eight times with the first seven shots hitting the bad guy.

I am not asking for a review of the officer's performance, but I believe ideally the "hostage rescue shot" should be one shot to the head.

So if a bad guy is holding a cocked pistol to a hostage's head, what are the odds, that a single solid hit to the bad guy's head will prevent the bad guy from pulling the trigger and wounding/killing the hostage?

This potential of a bad guy killing a hostage, even after the bad guy is himself shot in the head, has been mentioned, as a concern. However, in the recent case the bad guy was shot seven times and it was the officer's eighth shot, not a shot from the bad guy that resulted in the hostage's death.

thanks, Jack

My shop does property management and building maintenance. We have rotating teams of after-hours responders who can be called in for emergencies like securing a building after a break-in, shutting water off so a broken pipe doesn't flood a building over the weekend, etc.

For years we've issued the on-call team of two each a pager. The old Motorola pagers back before cell phones were quite durable with great battery life. The pagers we're able to get now are nothing like that.

With the pagers, the service calls go through an office and dispatcher, who is called back by our workers and then provides the location of the emergency and contact info for whomever will be at the building when our people arrive.

We have a cell phone that's issued to the primary responder on the teams but when we tested that as the main method of contact, the building occupants abused the direct contact with our personnel and used the cell number to bypass the channels of contact we have in place so that emergency calls are properly documented.

Rather than just shopping for a different company with better pagers, I thought I'd see if there were any better solutions. Any ideas?

Calling on the GNG brain trust.

The attic entrance ladder door thingie is spewing hot attic air into the hallway. The AC return air and thermostat are right beneath it. The hallway is hot as hell.

So here's the door:

You can clearly see the gap there. It's fully closed too. Here's a better shot:

It does not have any gaskets anywhere around it, but needs some kind of thing to seal it.

Here's a shot of it open a bit so you can see the frame:

Any ideas on how I can best seal this thing?

May 17 I bought a Kel Tec KSG shotgun from the small local gun store.

Out of the Blue a distributor offered one KSG to the store manager.
Being a long time friend and one of the store's best customers, the manager asked me if I wanted the gun.
I told him I want one but the most I'd pay is $1,000.

Me, the manager and store owner knew they could easily get $1,500, or more, for the gun. (CTD wants more than $2,000 for one. The manager called them and they had one)

The gun store manager and owner both wanted this gun themselves.

I didn't pressure them at all. I just said the gun is only worth a thousand to me.

They decided to sell the gun to me. $1,067.50 OTD.

First impression.
WOW!!!
That's COOL.

The manager wanted to shoot the gun and since I wanted to see the kick (both shoulders injured), I wanted to see him shoot it.

After we skimmed through the manual to see what does what to who, the manager shot two Hi Brass shells. The kick is such that I'll be shooting from the hip for a while.

Yesterday, four men at the gun store shot the gun. All four said they would get one ASAP.

So far I've only shot the gun about 15 times using low Brass shot and 2 inch 00 Buckshot shells.
Impressive.
I may shoot more this afternoon.

About the gun.

The gun seems well made and obviously a lot of thought and engineering went into designing and manufacturing it.

It holds a LOT of shells.
Such as these 2 3/4 inch Buck and Ball or 2 inch 6 ball 00 Buckshot loads.

Shown with a full load of either nineteen 2 inch or fifteen 2 3/4 inch shells.

It looks deadly and certainly would scare the crap out me if it was pointed in my direction.

Hey guys. I have a couple of questions that I'm sure have been addressed repeatedly on here, so I apologize in advance for beating a dead horse.

I own a few Glocks (3rd gen or older), and have still never bought a G19. I can't take it anymore, so I'm about to get one. Are the problems that the 4th gen models were having fixed now (for the most part, at least)?

I know there were issues with the springs, and some reported extractor issues. Being that they've been out for a couple of years now, I'm assuming most of the problems have been tended to. Am I right? Should I get a 4th Gen (what I really want), or stick with a 3rd Gen?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and I apologize again for asking what are probably dumb questions. Thanks guys and girls, have a good afternoon.

I am the new emergency prep guy at my church. My (unpaid) job is to help the congregation ready for a disaster. I am writing and planning to teach a big lesson in preparedness, probably in July, to the men and women. In the meantime my task is to present a two or three minute lesson every Sunday to the men. You know that when it comes to preparedness, most people have the attention of a six year-old boy strung out on Oreos and Mountain Dew.

When it comes to teaching in general, and especially in preparedness, I tend to take an evidence-based approach, and leave the second-guessing and BS to FEMA. I've been using examples from Haiti's recent earthquake and Hurricane Katrina (two examples that are still fresh in our minds, and pertinent). That way folks won't have to take my word for it (I've noticed that since I became an unofficial authority I have developed what appears to be a credibility problem...).

The first week I mentioned keeping sturdy shoes or boots next to everyone's bed and shared that many injuries related to the Haitian earthquake were foot injuries that led to amputations due to a lack of appropriate footwear. The next week I talked about keeping the car's gas tank at the halfway point, so the owner would have two or three days worth of driving, on average, in case the gas stations were closed. Last week I talked about the cholera outbreak in Haiti after the earthquake, and noted that the University of Utah predicts that we can be without tap water here for up to seven months, because the majority of our water pipelines cross our north/south faults. I instructed the brothers not to eat with their hands after a natural disaster, and to include forks and such in their short term preps.

What "two minute testimonies" regarding preparedness would you share with your church?

VelocityTV has a new series starting on June 18, titled "What's in the Barn?". It's about the "Wheels Through Time Museum - The museum that runs". It will feature vintage and rare motorcycles, and some cars too, that are at the museum in Maggie Valley, NC.

A friend of mine does machine work for them. He has a 1914 Harley that he races in the vintage class boardtrack races. What a blast that is with all the vintage bikes racing together. Every year "Wheels Through Time" raffles off a restored motorcycle to raise money as they are a non-profit organization. This year's prize is a '39 EL Knucklehead bobber, last year's was a '32 VL Flathead, and the year before that a '36 Knucklehead.

So if you like the vintage and really rare stuff keep an eye out for the "What's In The Barn?" series, it should be really good.

I went to the LGS looking for H4895 figuring there would be no chance. They had plenty! In fact, they had a roster of powders on a clip board and there were probably 30 different powders in stock - in quantity, not just a single can.

They had all kinds of primers - lots and lots of primers. Sure, they're overpriced but I don't really care whether a primer cost $0.05 or $0.03. It doesn't show up in the cost of reloading.

The gun cabinets were FULL. Well, they're a little less full, I bought a G36. But they had the guns in depth. The demo model is still on the shelf. AFAIK, there are more in the back. A vastly larger selection than the last time I was there.

As I said the last time I talked about this, they had probably 200 cases of .45 ammo and the regular shelves of ammo were completely stocked. Lots and lots of ammo. They even had a few dozen cases in the back.

Maybe things are looking up. :wavey:

Just before Jerry Brown signs all the new legislation and shuts everything down. :crying:
Does it matter where President Obama was during the night of the Benghazi attack? Not according to Dan Pfeiffer, Senior Advisor to the President for Strategy and Communications.

Pfeiffer made the rounds on the Sunday morning talk shows this week, mostly answering questions about the Internal Revenue Service scandal. But during his interview on “Fox News Sunday,” host Chris Wallace asked Pfeiffer to provide more details about the President’s whereabouts on Sept. 11, 2012 — something Pfeiffer apparently couldn’t or wouldn’t do, despite overseeing all communications for the President.

I bought a 6 dollar cheapo at WallyWorld. Yesterday I decided to clean all my handguns. Turns out I have been missing alot. I was amazed at what insufficient light doesn't show you.

Some of my barrels cleaned up great after FMJ and lead shooting. They are now fouling free and shiny. Glocks, Remington R1, and S&W 686 all came out clean and shiny.

2 guns that did not turn out so well have less than 200 rds through them. They have almost a matte finish in them. It is not shiny but it is all over, in the Lands and grooves equally including the chamber. It almost looks like a finish but I have never seen a barrel that wasn't shiny when cleaned. They were like this before I cleaned and after all the fouling was removed they are still this way.

The two guns that have this are my American Classic Amigo in Hard Chrome and my Beretta M9. Both have only had about 100-150 rds of FMJ and the Amigo has had about 50 LRN 230gr run through it. I bought them brand new. They did go a week without cleaning but the other guns did too and they have alot more lead and FMJ run through them.

Patches come out spic and span clean from both barrels with and without Hoppe's #9 on them. Is this just a normal finish? I will try to get some pics.

Just read a thread about the Corbon 9mm +p+. The video clip was impressive.

I don't own a 9. Not that I wouldn't, I just don't. I definitely have a soft spot for historic 9mm guns like the P09, P35, and P38, but the appeal of the cartridge has eluded me because I started shooting in the 70s, and most of my impressions were formed then. S&W autos were held in mild disdain, and it was considered a good thing that the Hi Power held 13 rds because you were probably going to need 13 rds of that caliber. The S&W Model 19 was King for cops, and Bill Jordan was The Boss.

Anyway, here's my question. If ammo engineers have to work so hard to get the 9mm to perform like the Corbon 115 gr +p+ that (a) it poses liability problems for them, and (b) availability of the ammo is hit-and-miss, why do so many people continue to rely on 9mm for self defense? I have no doubt it's adequate, but why would anyone take 'adequate' to a fight? I read caveats in almost every article about this cartridge: "Modern 9mm ammo has come a long way since..." Much of what I read about it seems framed around hoping it will do what other calibers apparently to do without breaking a sweat.

Does it have qualities so endearing in the aggregate -- comfort, accuracy, whatever -- that it will hang in there with the other top pistol rounds like 40, 357, and 45? (A 9mm Kurz, which almost no one is willing to defend, is only a little 'kurzer' than its big brother.) I went shooting a few weeks ago and picked up a piece of brass. I thought "Cute little round..." assuming it was .25 or .32, but it was 9mm. Gave me pause. I had no idea they were so small.

So assuming that, ballistically, the 9 has to work harder and be better just to be in the club, what is it about this round that has persuaded you to bet your life on it? And if you have, have you ever found yourself qualifying statements about your choice...? ("I carry a G17, but I stuff it with [fill in the blank magic ammo].") Is it about controllability? I admit I'd shoot my 23 better if I thought that every time it went off, I could expect the recoil of a .38 special.

This is something I have wanted to do for probably a decade, just haven't had the funds. I've been aviation crazy since I was a young boy... I've had more R/C airplanes and helicopters than you can count... and find myself randomly stopping in the vicinity of airports to check GA aircraft activity.
Tell me about your Private Certificate and your journey to get it... And I'm open to hearing tips and suggestions too:)

Sticking it to Feds: First Hemp Crop in 60 Years Planted This Week in CO

We'll await anxiously to see what the feds do. The federal law does not even distinguish between industrial hemp and the marijuana drug. Under present law, George Washington could be given a life sentence, like this brave soul risks.

Hemp, the THC-free cousin of cannabis, has recently been made legal in Colorado, but the feds still don't approve, even though the selling of hemp products is perfectly legal (about $500 million worth are imported from other countries every year).

What's a would-be hemp farmer to do when faced with this dilemma? Ryan Loflin, of Springfield, Colorado, decided to take a chance and go ahead anyway. As of Monday this week, he planted the first official hemp crop in the United States in about 60 years. This was historic enough that a documentary film crew was present.

Loflin is planting 60 acres that were previously used to grow alfalfa. With his partner Chris Thompson, they plan to make hemp oil.

Hopefully this will help bring attention - and support - to a bill in congress that would legalize industrial hemp (as well as regulate marijuana in states where it is legal). There are so many things we can do with hemp, a crop that requires little or no fertilizer and pesticides, it's crazy to keep farmers from growing it.

http://www.treehugger.com/sustainabl...-colorado.html

Lets contrast with WW2, where the government asked people to become pot farmers to win the war.
We have a cinder block garden, a couple of earth box gardens I built and a hydroponic set up as well. I've started composting a couple of months ago and as of yesterday I'm into vermiposting with red wiggler worms. Two different types of set up: one is worm towers right in the garden (got the idea from YT). The second is an 18 gal rubbermade worm bin set up.
Worm castings are suppose to be one of the best organic fertilizers and also have a natural pesticide in it from what I've read. Good way to get rid of kitchen scrapes as well as the Sunday newspaper and dried grass.

I was in my neighborhood restaurant this morning and was seated behind a group of jubilant individuals celebrating the coming implementation of the health care bill. I could not finish my breakfast. This is what ensued:

They were a diverse group of several races and both sexes. I heard a young man exclaim, "Isn't Obama like Jesus Christ ? I mean, after all, he is healing the sick."

A young woman enthusiastically proclaimed, "Yeah, and he does it for free. I cannot believe anyone would think that a free market wouldn't work for health care."

Another said, "The stupid Republicans want us all to starve to death so they can inherit all of the power. Obama should be made a Saint for what he did for those of us less fortunate."

At this, I had more than enough. I arose from my seat, mustering all the restraint I could find, and approached their table. "Please excuse me; may I impose upon you for one moment ?"

They smiled and welcomed me to the conversation. I stood at the end of their table, smiled as best I could and began an experiment.

"I would like to give one of you my house. It will cost you no money and I will pay all of the expenses and taxes for as long as you live there. Anyone interested ?"

They looked at each other in astonishment. "Why would you do something like that ?" asked a young man, "There isn't anything for free in this World."

They began to laugh at me, as they did not realize this Man had just made my point.

"I am Serious, I will give you my house for free, no money whatsoever. Anyone interested ?"

In unison, a resounding "Yeah" fills the room.

"Since there are too many of you, I will have to make a choice as to who receives this money-free bargain."

I noticed an elderly couple was paying attention to the spectacle unfolding before their eyes, the old man shaking his head in apparent disgust.

"I tell you what; I will give it to the one of you most willing to obey my rules."

Again, they looked at one another, an expression of bewilderment on their faces.

The perky young Woman asked, "What are the rules ?"

I smiled and said, "I don't know. I have not yet defined them. However, it is a free home that I offer you."

They giggled amongst themselves, the youngest of which said, "What an old Coot. He must be crazy to give away his home. Go take your med's, old Man."

I smiled and leaned into the table a bit further. "I am Serious, this is a legitimate offer."

They gaped at me for a moment.

"I'll take it you old fool. Where are the keys ?" boasted the youngest among them.

"Then I presume you accept 'ALL' of my terms then ?" I asked.

The elderly couple seemed amused and entertained as they watched from the privacy of their table. "Oh yeah ! Where do I sign up ?"

I took a napkin and wrote, "I give this Man my home, without the burden of financial obligation, so long as he accepts and abides by the terms that I shall set forth upon consummation of this transaction."

I signed it and handed it to the young Man who eagerly scratched out his signature.

"Where are the keys to my new house ?" he asked in a mocking tone of voice.

All eyes were upon us as I stepped back from the table, pulling the keys from pocket and dangling them before the excited new homeowner.

"Now that we have entered into this binding contract, witnessed by all of your friends, I have decided upon the conditions you are obligated to adhere to from this point forward. You may only live in the house for one hour a day. You will not use anything inside of the home. You will obey me without question or resistance. I expect complete loyalty and admiration for this gift I bestow upon you. You will accept my commands and wishes with enthusiasm, no matter the nature. Your morals and principles shall be as mine. You will Vote as I do, think as I do and do it with blind faith. These are my terms. Here are your keys."

I reached the keys forward and the young man looked at me dumbfounded.

"Are you out of your mind ? Who would ever agree to those ridiculous terms ?" the young man appeared irritated.

"You did when you signed this contract before reading it, understanding it and with the full knowledge that I would provide my conditions only after you committed to the agreement."

The elderly Man chuckled as his Wife tried to restrain him. I was looking at a now silenced and bewildered group of people.

"You can shove that stupid deal up your ass old Man. I want no part of it !" exclaimed the now infuriated young man.

'You have committed to the contract, as witnessed by all of your friends. You cannot get out of the deal unless I agree to it. I do not intend to let you free now that I have you ensnared. I am the power you agreed to. I am the one you blindly and without thought chose to enslave yourself to. In short, I am your Master."

At this, the table of celebrating individuals became a unified group against the unfairness of the deal.

After a few moments of unrepeatable comments and slurs, I revealed my true intent.

"What I did to you is what this Administration and Congress did to you with the health care legislation. I easily suckered you in and then revealed the real cost of the bargain. Your folly was in the belief that you can have something you did not earn, and for that which you did not earn, you willingly allowed someone else to think for you. Your failure to research, study and inform yourself permitted reason to escape you. You have entered into a trap from which you cannot flee. Your only chance of freedom is if your new Master gives it to you. A freedom that is given can also be taken away. Therefore, it is not freedom at all."

With that, I tore up the napkin and placed it before the astonished young Man. "This is the nature of your new Health care legislation."

I turned away to leave these few in thought and contemplation -- and was surprised by applause.

The elderly Gentleman, who was clearly entertained, shook my hand enthusiastically and said, "Thank you, Sir. These kids don't understand Liberty ."

He refused to allow me to pay my bill as he said, "You earned this one. It is an honor to pick up the tab."

I shook his hand in thanks, leaving the restaurant somewhat humbled and sensing a glimmer of hope for my beloved Country.

Remember ... Four boxes keep us free: The Soap Box, The Ballot Box, The Jury Box, and The Cartridge Box.

THIS SHOULD GO AROUND THE UNITED STATES SO PEOPLE CAN SEE JUST WHAT IS GOING ON. MAYBE EVEN THE POLITICALLY BLIND ONES WILL LEARN SOMETHING FROM IT.

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the American Government take care of him, better take a closer look at the American Indian."

I like this little pistol because it's all steel and 40. Seems hard to find many all steel pistols these days. What is the beaver tail Grip safety on the 40 made of? I ASSume aluminum. I know the 9mm has an alloy frame so not sure. Is it possible to cut, reshape and refinish the stock piece or can a non extended GS be purchased aftermarket or from S-A directly? I saw a guy had a non ambi safety installed on his which I will do also should I get this.

Long BT's don't work well for how I carry and that is the main thing holding me back. I can get one for $1,100 OTD from a little place and I would'nt mind them making a few bucks off a safe queen as a trade in. Is $1,100 OTD a good price, average? From what I've seen it's good - average.

Also, when researching this pistol, I was amazed how thin it is. One review I read which was very well done showed it next to a Kahr P9. The guy was saying he thought it would be smaller. I could'nt believe how thin this pistol is comparatively. I have a P9 and besides the Kahr P380, I hav'nt seen a thinner pistol.

Thanks in advance for the info.

I have a Gen II Glock 20 that has a guide rod spring assembly that is not captured. It's a real pain to reinstall - I had to make a simple tool to install it.

The question is: are the guide rod assemblies for the Glock 20 and Glock 21 the same? From what I have seen on parts lists the 20 and 21 are listed at the same time and probably the same for power and size.

I have a spare unused Glock 21 guide rod spring assembly I could use in the Glock 20.

Thanks.
