Today I completed the last task I needed to be done building my home.

I started Aug 10 1988 and moved in July 3rd 1989 with the interior uncompleted but liveable. I did all the work myself except for foundation work,,,heating and AC,,,Septic system and some concrete flat work.

Currently all the inside is done from floor to ceiling except for one thing that was left. For the last 20 some years I had not put a door knob on the master bedroom's bathroom door.

Today I just decided to finish the place 100%, and I put the door knob on. It took me about 45 minutes to fit the striker plate on the door jam.

I do not really know why I waited so long to finish the house, since it only took me a few minutes to do the task,,,I guess it was so easy to just put it off till another day and then another day and another. At least it is finished and I'm really excited to have a bathroom door that stays shut, and no more peeking.

Loading up some .45 colt with a lyman cast 250 grain lead bullet. I am running out of Trail Boss, and see in the Lyman cast bullet handbook that Green Dot is an option. I have a couple of pounds of GD (Trail Boss is getting hard to find) left over from shotshell reloading.

I've been thinking of a tactical semi auto shotgun and Benelli comes up all the time. I looked at a M4 at a shop that was priced $1400 or $1600, and was disappointed that the capacity was only 4 or 5 rounds, which most hunting shotguns will hold.

Anyway, are they that good? Is there a 12 guage out there in this style that has interchangeable chokes, high cap, and 3 1/2" mag compatible?

Got My Little Turd Gen4 FDE G26 Today!!

I got bitten by the FDE Glockbug again... I recently picked up a Gen4 FDE G34, and love it!!! I've been hearing that Lipsey's might be ending their product run on these sweet babies....

I decided to trade my last Gen3 Gun in (G23) since I'm moving all Gen4. I walked out with a New FDE G26 Gen4... Last one they've had come thru my LGS in a while. I even got a deal on Glock Brand Meps and an Extended Slide release for an add'l $65 OTD!!! It also shipped with the FDE Beavertail Grips. The only thing I'm waiting on is a G30S to come thru my LGS and the Fabled Glock 22lr Pistol possibly 3rd Quarter 2k13!:supergrin:

Hi All:
Picked it up today, a "plain Jane" Glock 17 Gen 4. Had planned to mess with the trigger/connector a bit. I was shocked at how nice this trigger is "out of the box." Scale measures about 4.75lbs (very nice). It has the "dot" connector and that must be what makes this feel so good! So, I'll leave it alone and shoot it a lot. I do plan to put some night sights on it, but that's all folks! She's cleaned up and lubed so I'll try to get to the range tomorrow. Am happy.:supergrin: Good luck and good shooting.

I mentioned in my other thread, concerning the BPD officer down, that Rick McCubbin was an officer's chief. He's been there, done that here in Louisville. Chief McCubbin has been involved in a shooting here, way back when, after a Hispanic male tried to slice McCubbin (then an officer with the Louisville Police Department) with a knife

McCubbin's body armor stopped the knife. The attacker didn't fare so well against McCubbin's Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol. Oops. You know the saying about bringing a knife to a gunfight, right?

So, he went on to be President of their FOP Lodge, and retired after a nice career with LPD. After that, he was appointed the U.S. Marshal for our area (not sure of the district) by President Bush.

Despite the foray into the political arena as an administrator, Chief McCubbin has remained, in my eyes, as a man I would truly love to work for - and one who fully supports his officer. Here are two comments, made in the public eye and to the media, by Chief McCubbin during his tenure as Bardstown Police Chief. Judge for yourself as to what type of man he is:

I was settling into a second TurboDog and rummaging through the cabinet for some foodstuff. I found tin of Season sardines in olive oil. Mrs. G being out of town I can enjoy them inside the house...

For me the only real conveyance for a sardine is a soda cracker. I found a box of Zestas, split the oil with Charcoal the Cat, and am now happily replenishing my Omega 3 supply.

BMW 3 Series "Review"

I have had one of the new 3 series the last few days and got a chance today to actually try it out well. It is a 320d Lux model.

A 2.0L TDI with the 8-speed automatic is a good combination. The car seems to always have torque and acceleration. The car had no problem accelerating to 125mph and went upto 140ish (with speedo error..so maybe 130-135) decent.

At around 100mph in 8th gear, the car was using a little under 5l/100km (47mpg) of fuel. That is not bad what so-ever for that speed and the ability to still accelerate decently.

I wasnt sure about the electric assist steering. It was perfectly weighted at all speeds. What was strange is the car has blind spot radar. So, if you turn on the blinker and a car is in the blind spot the steering wheel starts vibrating. It doesnt affect the steering, just the feel in the wheel. I am not sure if I like it or not. When passing and going back into the right lane, it is weird to have the steering wheel vibrate.

The car doesnt have a sport package but has the softer luxury suspension so I was skeptical. Really, it is just about a perfect blend of compression-rebound-andspring stiffness. The car never felt uncomposed, even up to 140. I probably did over 100 miles cruising along at 125mph+ and only once in a little curvy area did I think that it needed stiffer springs (or I needed to slow down).

Seats. It needs sports seats. The normal seats are very comfortable but have very little lateral support.

HUD. Very interesting feature. It works really well and to my surprise is not distracting. Even with dynamic speed limits, it always displayed the correct speed limit when the speeds changed. It was nice to have speed limits, other traffic regulations (i.e. no passing), and navigation displayed. What I didnt like, is the HUD really couldnt be seen with polarized sunglasses on. Also, it seems to have a very narrow head height that the HUD works. It seems like it perfect for someone about 5'6" and but the top gets cut off if head head is much above the steering wheel. Maybe I need to figure out how to adjust this because I cant imaging its made for only short people.

Here is the HUD.

All in al - I would rate the car -- 8.0 A 335d would up the rating to probably a 8.5 because of more power. But the low fuel consumption mixed with the acceleration, make the 2.0 hard to beat. The 8 speed always seems to be in just the right gear.

I still like the style of the Audis better, but I think driving dynamics for a sedan, BMW has it down perfect.

I put about 400 rounds down range today. The 27 shot as good as it ever has, flawless. The 30SF continues to amaze me and shoots better and better each time. I first stopped at the counter and took notice of a new G20 Gen 4 FDE. I started to get very twitchy, it held awesome. I figured I would think on it while shooting. The 30SF shot so good that at $600, I passed. I then went out and beat my head against the wall.

So I was down in the basement organizing some ammo, cleaning some guns, etc. and I started thinking about what I have and what I shoot. Now I've got lots of guns and shoot a lot of calibers.

Handguns include .22, .22wmr, .32, .380, .38, 9mm and .357

Long guns include .22, .22wmr, .223/5.56, .243, .270, 30-30, .35rem, .38/.357 and 7.62x39.

But there are three calibers obviously missing; .45, 30-06 and .308. So can an American gun collection be complete without these calibers? Should I go out and by one of each right now? I know I need a 1911 and I really like that new Sig SSG 3000. Maybe its time to go shopping?

I think being American Centric, I never realized how far along the Russian (Soviet) Space Shuttle (Buran) was. I saw one today and these things weren't fake propaganda models out of wood. These things were real and functional. The soviets launched one into (unmanned) and it returned automated.

Finally got around to cleaning my 1928 Mosin Nagant after the shooting session last weekend. For those interested in Mosins, it takes about four hours to field strip and reassemble.

Now, for a rifle held together by two screws, one may wonder WHY it takes four hours to field strip and reassemble. To satisfy those of curious mind:

Disassemble Mosin : five minutes

Initial patch cleaning through barrel: 10 minutes

Realizing there was more rust in barrel than originally thought : 15 minutes

Get serious about barrel scrubbing: 1 hour

Reassemble Mosin: five minutes

Realizing Mosin is not working: 30 seconds

Scratching head: five minutes

Disassembling Mosin: 5 minutes

Realizing bolt not coming off: 30 secs

Futzing around until bolt DOES come off: 10 minutes

Examining bolt, not knowing what to look for: 10 minutes

Watching bolt assembly fall apart in three pieces unexpectedly: 5 seconds

Thinking the weapon MUST be able to be put back together by a Russian peasant: 5 minutes

Realizing I am not as smart as a Russian peasant: 30 secs.

Figuring out how to reassemble bolt in the cocked position: 30 minutes

It is being reported that a French soldier in Paris was attacked with a knife and it appears his throat slit. It being reported that the attacker is north african. This is very similar to the London attack on a British solider.
