I have meant to join the GSSF for many years, but never got around to it.

With my dad being injured and unable to work anymore, he has spent the last 1-2 years sitting at the house, bored out of his mind.

He took a great interest in GLOCK pistols and has bugged me to death about them.

So . . . I joined and paid for his membership, too. We will be attending our first match in Montgomery, AL in a few days. :wavey:

Not sure how well it fits, was an assignment for one of my classes

I was born in virginia, barely west of D.C.
I’d strut about the land, confident that I was free,
I never knew the meaning of the word tyranny,
Till I had become a man

One december a mad man brought death to a school,
his deed was known throughout the land before the bodies were cool,
the paper’s called for action from every voting fool,
and we lost the Right of Man

We turned in our rifles and put out trust in the state,
defenseless to the violent, we’d surrendered to our fate,
by the time we’d realized our mistake, it was far to late,
and we were sorry men

A couple years then went by, and the victims numbers grew,
the many and the strong, became the weak and few,
they put a man in power, not knowing what he would do
and they all hailed the Man

He demanded that we Give, he demanded that we change,
all we could do was rattle cuz we’d given in our fangs,
but then all who rattled, were silenced and hanged,
The only left were broken men

I'll sing this to my future sons, hoping they will grow to be
Patriotic and proud, more of which this country needs,
They'll find a way to conquer the criminals and thieves,
When they all become men

#1) I was on the lookout for a Glock 26 for some time, and low and behold found one for $545 out the door at a gun show of all places.
So here is my first question, mine included the beaver tails, my father also purchased a black 26 a few weeks ago that did not have them. Google is not really turning up an answer as to why his did not have them..?? Why??

Question #2. I have thought about trying to improve my accuracy using a cheap laser (only used for aiming practice). Is there a Cheepo Chinese laser that I can put on it? I don't want to spend the hundreds of $$ on a real one I just want to practice dry firing or close fire range tests using the laser, so who cares about quality..

I am having trouble with accuracy, I can shoot mites off a rats butt with my ruger mark Ii .22. But always shooting low right or high with my 26. Tomorrow I will be practicing with dummy rounds, so hopefully that helps. But a laser would be nice. Any help would be appreciated,

So I graduated a little while ago and haven't been able to get a job in my field, I have a BS in Env Studies. It was a hard science degree, lots of chem classes, stats, biology, etc, not bunny hugging bs or liberal arts crap.

I have a job that barely pays my bills and I'm sick of it at this point and need to get work in my field. I'm intelligent, hardworking, and have a good attitude.

I'm in that awful catch 22 of every job wanting experience, and I don't have much.

I'm thinking about taking the 40 hour hazwoper to make myself more employable, anyone have any suggestions as to somewhere not so scammy?

Another helpful thing was that my program advisor in college got pancreatic cancer and passed away the year I graduated, leaving a new guy with no connections etc in place and I lost a great reference and a good person.

I was out on the boat by myself.

As I got closer to my slip, my eye began to hurt more and more.

I got the boat docked, and on the way home, I had to hold my eye shut with my hand.

I nearly passed out when I got home due to a combination of lack of food and the extreme pain I was feeling.

My wife works @ the hospital, so she called the doctor on call. We went straight in, he did some numbing drops and said it looked like something stung my eyeball. There's a swollen pocket under my cornea; I nearly passed out again on the hospital bed...

Damn that **** hurts.

The drops he did felt great; too bad he didn't send any home with me.

I did get a steroidal/antibiotic OINTMENT that I have to rub on my freakin' eyeball; can't get it filled until tomorrow, though.

Anyway -- just wanted to share and pass on this advice -- DON'T GET YOUR EYEBALL STUNG!!!

Kind of similar to going to an empty resturant on Friday night becuse you can get seated right away. Mybe there are reasons?

Quote:

I made this a new post so that everyone would realize it is new information.
We cannot afford for anyone to assume they have already done all they can.

This is preliminary notification of a plan we need to execute, unfortunately over a holiday weekend, to resist the first major gun control legislation to have passed a house of the Nevada legislature in our history.
I am asking each of you to be part of a core working group, and giveing you a heads up on where we're going, because each of you can play a key part in what may be one of our most important victories of this session.

As I'm sure all of you know, SB221 passed the Senate on Wednesday afternoon on a party line vote.
It is ostensibly a bill to tighten up the ability for mentally unstable individuals to obtain firearms, but includes Universal Background Checks for all transfers, including private party, with severe penalties for violators, including loss of 2nd Amendment rights.
Even the Oboma Justice Department has officially stated that universal background checks cannot work as intended wthourt universal registration, so if SB221 becomes law universal registration WILL be next.

This bill will be heard in Assembly Judiciary sometime next week - it had it's first reading on the Assembly floor and has been assigned to the Assembly Judiciary Committee.
No meeting date has yet been scheduled. We expect it to pass out of this committee, and to then pass the Liberal / Democrat dominated Assembly sometime later in the week.
Monday is possible, Tuesday is likely, by Wednesday is almost a certainty.
I will post the date, time, and room as soon as it is known.

We can stop this bill with a Sandoval veto, but to guarantee that we need to organize the public support necessary to:

Insure that the bill passes the committee and the full Assembly on a party line vote
Insure that the Governor has all the support and political cover he needs to veto the bill.
The opposition will use the same mass shootings and photos of child victims to appeal to the public's emotion that they used elsewhere, and we must counter that.

The strategy has three parts:

1. Publicize the situation, and generate contacts to Assemblymen urging a "No" vote.
If you have done so before do it again, if this is your first time, NOW is the time!

2. Provide a strong presence and testimony at the hearing, making it clear that the public opposes this bill.
This is critical to meet objective #2 above.
We need EVERYONE to show up this time, we need to overwhelm the anti's with our numbers, we have to impress Governor Sandoval with our presence so that he may point to us as the reason for his veto!

3. Generate as many contacts as possible to the Governor as soon as the bill passes urging him to veto SB221.
Please repost to other forums you may be a member of, any social media groups you know, friends, relatives, any supporters you can reach.

NELIS site to submit your opinion on SB221, https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/Opinions/77th2013/A/
This a good place to make a statement, but at this late date contacting your Assemblyman directly, preferably IN PERSON if possible, will be better.

Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead
crows near Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu.

They had a Bird Pathologist examine the remains of all the crows, and, to
everyone's relief, he confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu.

However, he determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact
with trucks, & only 2% were killed by an impact with a car.

Massachusetts then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine the
cause of the disproportionate percentages for truck kills versus car
kills.

The Ornithological Behaviorist determined the cause in short order:

When crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby
tree, to warn of impending danger.

His conclusion was that, while all the lookout crows could say "Cah", none
could say "Truck."

Daughters 12th B-Day Party at Range-IDEAS NEEDED

Sunday is my daughters 12th B-day party and this year she wants to have her party at the shooting range. This was 100% her idea and of course I am bending over backwards to make this happen. It will be her and 5 other girls. I got pink shooting glasses and muffs for the party favors, bulls-eye cupcakes are being made. I have 4 bolt action Savage Mark II.22s that the girls will be easier to watch and maintain control with vs. the 10/22's. (yep I have way too many rimfires) Our range has smaller individual bays up to 35 yards apart from the main range that will allow me to have 100% control of the set up.

Plan is to have a safety demo and talk first, go over the rules and how the rifles we will be using work etc. Then I'll let them go up 2x at a time and trade off for an hour.

So far targets are old milk jugs and soda bottles I'm going to fill with colored water, spinning metal target, cardboard IDPA tombstones, balloons, clay pigeons (got a cool IDPA target that clays snap into), clay holders on a stick. I also got some of the easy to see old west targets, zombie targets, bulleseye targets etc.

After shooting, clean up, pick up brass (enforce good habits), wash hands and eat.

My question to the masses:Anyone see something I am missing to make this a positive and safe experience for 6th grade girls?

Any other suggestions-cool target ideas (tanerite is not allowed) or tips for this kind of thing? Anyone else have a kids shooting party that can provide some input?

On Wednesday, House hearings on the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) political targeting of conservative groups uncovered a startling revelation about the interview process used to construct the Inspector General’s report: Obama donor-turned-IRS director of tax exempt organizations Holly Paz sat in on 36 of 41 interviews with IRS employees.

“Why was Holly Paz... in almost all of the interviews you conducted?” asked Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC). “Why would you have someone from the IRS in those meetings? Is that proper protocol?”

“I am unaware of it,” said Inspector General J. Russell George. “This is the first I’ve heard this.”

George then requested time to research the revelation. “This is the first time that I was made aware of this,” said George.

April Fool's Day was more than a month ago, but that didn't stop DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse from emailing supporters Friday that the GOP was "making up so-called 'scandals' out of thin air." This will obviously be news to the three IRS employees who have been forced to resign or placed on leave. It will also be news to the dozens of reporters who had their phone records seized by the Justice Department. "Out of thin air" obviously means something different to Democrats.

"Getting in President Obama's way has been the top priority for Republicans in Congress since day one," Woodhouse writes. "But now they've gone too far. They've been caught red-handed making up so-called 'scandals' out of thin air to stir up false rumors of vast 'cover-ups' happening in the White House."

The new Ithaca's do not slam fire like the one I hunted with when I was younger but they r still light very quick handling.

Flame suit is on;

I live in an apartment building in NoVa that has a huge parking problem. There are not enough parking spots for the number of cars that park here. My car has been hit 4 times, all requiring trips to the body shop, in this lot.

Today, I come home from work, and drive around looking for a parking spot.

Guess what I find?

Three parking spots, at the front of the (rear of the building) parking lot, completely empty, with new signs that say "For Employees Only, Towing Enforced 24 Hours A Day".

First, there are no around-the-clock staff here. They're all gone by 5PM, come in at 8AM, and no one is here on the weekends. One person comes in on the weekend to take care of the trash, and he parks at the back of the building, at the loading dock.

So, some brilliant person thought that a good idea was to permanently take 3 parking spots, for the maintenance staff, and not let the people that PAY to live here, use them.

So......I pulled an M&P15T.

I parked in one of the spots, yanked one of the signs out of the ground (they aren't set in concrete) and stashed it in some bushes. Then I came up to my apartment, and wrote a scathing e-mail to the building manager, demanding that the rest be taken down.

For those that want to say that the workers here need those spots, I can tell you for a fact that they don't. By the time the maintenance people get here, there are plenty of open spots in the rest of the lot, where people have left for their daily work lives. Between 8AM and 5PM, there is no shortage of parking spots.

What someone here thought, is that the people that friggin' pay to live here, don't need those spots between 5PM and 8AM during the week, nor all weekend long. This is just typical East Coast, arrogant business practice B.S.

The people that get PAID to work here, can park where they can find a spot, just like the rest of us do. We pay STUPID MONEY to live and park here, our needs come first.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm not looking to spend any money. Since I already have this, I thought I'd try putting it on. Is there any information about the trajectory of bullets in relation to the aim point through a scope mounted that high?

Yeah, it's time for one of my oddball food question threads. Like when I asked about Milk.

So, how do you feel about bologna, the food?

If you eat it, how do you like to eat it?

If you don't like it that's fine.

Me:

I have mixed feelings about bologna. I ate it a lot when I was little because it was cheap. I know it's not good for you at all but every now and then I'll grab some from the store.

I just eat it plain from the stack. Occasionally I will have it on bread with mayo. After a few slices I wind up chucking it out. Maybe it's some kind of weird nostalgia trip. I don't like it that much in the end.

:dunno:

when I bought my G30sf it was with the idea of using a 10mm barrel for the woods. I ordered a Storm Lake barrel, bought some ammo and then to the range. I would shoot a few then a fail to extact. next I bought a 10mm OEM extractor, no difference. then I checked the size of the block that surrounds the chamber and seen the SL width was over .006 smaller than my Glock barrel. also the block had a taper and got smaller towards the front [where the barrel starts]. called SL and they said send it back. I got the barrel back with some grinding done on the ledge on the front of the block by the barrel. now every round failed to extract. called SL for a new barrel and they said the barrel was in specs. they said I needed to send the slide in and they would make it fit. after seeing the grind they did on the barrel I wasn't going to do that. they said there was nothing else they would do. good thing I bought it from Midway cause I called them and they said they would refund my money.
so if you are going to try the conversion with a Storm Lake barrel you might want to get it from some place that has a good refund policy and not directly from SL. I know many do the conversion and it works great, just not for me.
I learned one thing though, I love the 10mm.

As a groom, forget the ring?

or

Or be one hour late for your wedding?

I would definitely choose to be late. I can't imagine getting to the big moment of exchanging rings in the ceremony... and coming up empty-handed. Not that I would be angry or that upset - in fact, I think it might be pretty funny! But exchanging the rings and vows are pretty important, and I wouldn't want to take away from that special moment.

What would you choose?
