.45-10mm conversion/no luck

when I bought my G30sf it was with the idea of using a 10mm barrel for the woods. I ordered a Storm Lake barrel, bought some ammo and then to the range. I would shoot a few then a fail to extact. next I bought a 10mm OEM extractor, no difference. then I checked the size of the block that surrounds the chamber and seen the SL width was over .006 smaller than my Glock barrel. also the block had a taper and got smaller towards the front [where the barrel starts]. called SL and they said send it back. I got the barrel back with some grinding done on the ledge on the front of the block by the barrel. now every round failed to extract. called SL for a new barrel and they said the barrel was in specs. they said I needed to send the slide in and they would make it fit. after seeing the grind they did on the barrel I wasn't going to do that. they said there was nothing else they would do. good thing I bought it from Midway cause I called them and they said they would refund my money.
so if you are going to try the conversion with a Storm Lake barrel you might want to get it from some place that has a good refund policy and not directly from SL. I know many do the conversion and it works great, just not for me.
I learned one thing though, I love the 10mm.

I would definitely choose to be late. I can't imagine getting to the big moment of exchanging rings in the ceremony... and coming up empty-handed. Not that I would be angry or that upset - in fact, I think it might be pretty funny! But exchanging the rings and vows are pretty important, and I wouldn't want to take away from that special moment.

What would you choose?

A great cause obviously, but wow do I find these visually unappealing. I'm sure like nearly any color fill gun part, "it looks better in person".

I think I'll stick with the tastefully done Noveske Memorial PMAG's.

since I was asked for details about the gun I put in the picture thread I figured I'd make a little write up. I have it on anotehr board so this will be a breeze and it'd clog up a picture post pretty bad.

Warning, this took me a good bit of time and money. I've been military armorer, LE armorer, nationally accredited gunsmithing school graduate and been playing with guns my whole life. It's not as easy as it looked.

I bought this gun in a ziplock bag from a friend years ago(Had most of the parts) years ago and have been slowly tinkering with it. It was his fathers when he died, they sold or gave away most of 'em but this was laying in parts and they didn't want to get rid of it like that not knowing if it worked or had all the pieces. Knowing I'm a gun nut, went to gunsmithing school and have basically played with them my whole life he gave it to me for the price of a transfer.

Here's the way it went together the first time. Needed grips, didn't have a firing pin or stop so I made it work out of the parts bin. Same with the plunger & spring. Luckily I had some old worn out pieces that I never pitched just tossed in a drawer when I replaced them. I put a new mainspring housing in (well used) because it didn't have one, but they found that about 3 months later.

So the big box 'O brownells parts showed up one faithful afternoon. Harrison Design internals, Wilson safety, Ed Brown rebuild kit and some new grip screws, Wilson Speed Chute. Firing pin had starting to mushroom a little bit so replaced that. New Extractor, lots of goodies in this box.

Took a lot more work than I figured they would. Of course learning on the fly probably didn't help either.

And my ruined safety.... That was a slightly pricy lesson. Actually this is the 3rd one now that I'm on

Making some progress, needs new sights and it's just about done. Could use some refinishing too

Back on Duty

I have 16.5 years on the job. I have carried various duty guns during my career:

Berettas
1911s
Glock
Sigs

As I am getting older, I find that the belt is getting heavy or I am noticing it more. I broke out the Smith & Wesson 5903 .9mm today as well as my Safariland 070 SSIII holster. It is going back on duty.

It is amazing that all these younger Officers have never seen a stainless 3rd generation gun. It is getting harder to find Officers that knows what a 070 holster is.

Anyway, it goes back on the clock on Sunday at 6 PM

CCW in IL finally

5/24/13 1:10 PM I know the topic is off issue for this forum BUT, Illinois just passed a Concealed Carry law - finally. We are no longer the only state in the country without CCW.

Its' a SHALL ISSUE and Statewide, which prevents Home Rule laws. Other than that it's a crappy bill with 16 hours training, $150 fees and a lot of places restricted from carrying.

The IL House just passed a Shall Issue Concealed Carry Law in IL. Vote was 85 yes - 30 no - 1 present.

It's a crappy law with 16 hours of training and high fees ($150). Also has way too many restriction on where you can carry.

BUT, a crappy Concealed Carry law is better than no Concealed Carry Law.

IL has 180 days to implement the law, set up permiting offices and procedures, etc.

Divorce veterans: Question.

If my soon to be ex-wife was stashing money in an account she hid from me, will she be forced to disclose that during the divorce process?

I've picked out a lawyer but haven't officially "hired" him yet.

When I get back to AZ, I will be officially hiring the guy and giving him the up front money.

But, I found out my wife has an account here locally that my VA disability checks have been going into for years.

She handles all the money and I trusted her to take care of that aspect, but I remember her telling me that money went to pay for life insurance.

However, I pay $34 a month for OSGLI and my VA check is over $200 a month...:dunno:

This morning I took a couple lady shooting friends to breakfast. On the way home I stopped in the gun store. It's a couple miles from home. I spend far TOO MUCH time (and money) at this gun store.

First thing, the manager tells me he has a S&W 40 Shield coming next week and asks me if I want it.

I have the 9mm Shield and think a lot of it.
I said I'll take it.
It should be about $450.

So, anyone have the 40 Shield and what do you think about it?

Here is a pic of some Norinco 7.62X39mm I came across
at the lgs this morning.

The case and projectile both have a copper wash on it.
It says lead core but the tip at least is magnetic.

Do you think it is just a bimetal jacket or is there steel in the tip?

Resisting Arrest Question

I was wondering how someone can be arrested and charged solely for resisting arrest, and about how often that happens.

(This is borne out of a thread elsewhere where the news articles on the arrest state that the person was charged for resisting but don't mention any other charges, and it made me curious - for all I know it's just a matter of they're not reporting other charges, but I figured I'd ask).

Is it possible to meet whatever is needed to make an arrest but not meet a bar required to charge?

About the Class:

The Noveske Shooting Team 3 Gun Training class is
unlike any other program currently taught. This course was developed entirely by Jansen Jones and Rob Romero as an interactive class to improve a shooters match performance and enhance their match finishes at multi gun as well as rifle and shotgun matches. The class was founded on the concept that it would be a class we would want to take ourselves. Remington 700 DM?

Hey all, I'm looking to get into some precision shooting and have been looking at the Remington 700 in .308 as a good starter rifle. I like the aftermarket parts (triggers, stocks, barrels, etc.) that I could get for it, so I can upgrade as I get better. I would eventually like to work my way up to having something like this:

Which brings me to my question. As I look at all these competition stocks many have 700s with detachable magazines. I have read about the Remington 700 DM but have been unable to find one online to see what they cost/come with. Anyone have any idea where I could find one for sale? Is this something a gunsmith has to do to an existing 700? Any information would be appreciated.

I always wipe down my firearms, prior to stowing them, after handling them. The problem is this makes the slide slippery. Do you rub down your slide when carrying? If so what would you recommend rubbing it down with to remove the slipperiness but not damage the surface?

G23 Gen4 Recoil Spring Assembly & Ejector Question....

I just got my Gen4 G23 back from Glock about 15min ago, the question i have is my recoil spring assembly number is 033 & my NEW ejector number is 28926(old ejector# was 1882). Can anyone that has this ejector in their G23 tell me if it works well for you? I can't get to the range for a few more days, but with the 1882 ejector i was getting brass to the face almost everytime(3mags 30rnds to the face out of 39) & even had a couple of rounds that went over the left side on the gun. This was with Hornady Critical Defense & Winchester Ranger Series ammo. Thanks in advance.

I'm an idiot because all this time I thought the Outdoor Channel was satellite only, but I actually have it with my cable subscription.

I just wanted Glocktalk Opinions on the best gun related, non-hunting shows out there. I prefer self defense or competition related topics but I don't mind history either.

I used to watch Top Shot and Sons of Guns but I'm getting a little burned out on the reality based shows.

My girls celebrated their first birthday yesterday and had a big time all day and into the evening. They partied pretty hard last night � had to tell them a couple of times to hold it down. This morning feathers, saw dust, and little empty airline bottles of tequila were strewn all over the backyard. They were moving pretty slowly when I left so I suspect a few of them are slightly hung over. Serves them right � they are too young to be indulging like that.

I think that the purpose of Ipods and Smart Phones is to entertain the people because you go into stores and each bonehead is on the stupid phones rather than enjoying themselves or paying attention to what they should be doing. Then we watch as people walking down the street get hit by cars because they have their stupid earphones on listening to music on their stupid phones. I wonder how we survived without "smart phones". :whistling:

I'm a (gonna be) new Glock 21 owner. (In fact I will pick it up next week) I currently reload my own .45 for bullseye shooting.
I like using Hogdon Clays powder. I also understand I need to use a FMJ bullet (not hard cast) in the Glock. Can I get some recommendations for a Clays load for IDPA / combat shooting? (gr., bullet wt., type, OAL, crimp size)

I just acquired a Glock 21 from a retired Chicago suburb cop. I have been shooting bullseye year round indoors 1x/mo and outdoors when the weather is decent also 1x/mo at the ISRA range.
The ISRA range also conducts "combat shoots" a couple of times a year that looked very interesting.
What equipment do I need to start?
Are any modifications to my gun needed right away?
And, I currently reload my own .45 for bullseye shooting.
I like using Hogdon Clays powder. I also understand I need to use a FMJ bullet (not hard cast) in the Glock. Can I get some recommendations for a Clays load for IDPA / combat shooting?

Have owned several over the years, looking to get back in, wanting to learn what is available today.

Had a Gen 2 G23, loved it, G27 didn't love it couldn't get my paw to fit it right, G30 should have learned my lesson on the G27.

Am trying to figure out if Gen 4 or Gen 3 in the G23 is the "right" fit for me today, thought I'd come here and learn some before slapping down the cash.

I just realized this. I graduated at 21. I'm 44. WHOA! I have to say, the 17 years (K-college) was far longer than the 23 in between.

10 years from now - when I start gearing down in retirement - is forever from now but 10 years ago, my kids were youngsters and was YESTER-FREAKIN-DAY!

I used to laugh at people that told me that time passed faster as you got older. If only I could have time pass the way it did when I was 7. Back then, the 4 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas seemed like a YEAR. LOL
