Yesterday was Range Day for annual recert. I usually score a 98 or 99 with the Smif Fotie, but had a bit of a mishap this time around. I haven't shot an M&P or messed with a retention holster since last year's recert, unfortunately. On top of me being a bit rusty, we shot in the pouring rain, and I fumbled a bit with the retention hood on one sequence. The Rangemaster took 2 rounds, or a possible four points. I was pretty bummed out, knowing that the best I could do was a 96, but was bound and determined to get it. Wellll....... about two sequences later, the jackass in the lane to my right put a round into my target. I finished the course, and when they graded me..... I made a 97 out of a possible 96!

The Dodge Stealth finally crapped out (I will miss that car!!!). I am not a Chevy guy, but found what may be a great deal... Looking at a 1993 (yes I know it's old) GMC Silverado 2500 (3/4-ton, Regular cab/bed) with the 5.7L V8. Runs good, topper, AC is out...new U-joints in the last year, new battery, new tires, 99K miles. Minimal rust. $1200.....is this an ok risk/deal? How can I tell if it has xtra features like a tow package (it IS 2wd only)? Anyone with info on the engines/transmissions in these cars? What can I expect for MPG? Is the 1993 R12or R134 for AC coolant?
Thanks! :wavey:

Hello members,

Just got myself a beautiful Glock 29 last week and I love it. Went to the gun show Sunday and bought 100 rounds of cheap hollow point ammo (PPU) so I can't wait to go shooting.

In the picture, one magazine has the Pearce +2 mag extension for G29/30 glocks. The bullets in the picture are Hornady hollow points. Inside the trigger guard is a weaponized kiradashi I bought at a gun show from a NC knife maker.

I know education is first, and he's already of hot pursuit of that elusive degree. He's paying for school as he goes, and carries very small debt that is well managed.

But he works hard, and has some extra cash on any given month. He's been told by some that he needed a minimum of 5 grand to get started, but I know there has to be some out there that will take $100 to $500 at a time.

We're talking mutual funds, here. All eggs in one basket is a big no no.

Any suggestions?

So I recently couldn't stand it anymore and sold my PPQ "classic". I'm likely not ever going to own very many pistols, and decided I want push button...

So I recently couldn't stand it anymore and sold my PPQ "classic". I'm likely not ever going to own very many pistols, and decided I want push button mag releases, that can be switched over for a lefty, on all of them.

I originally sold the Q to get a Q M2, but made the mistake of going online and into several shops just to make sure it's really what I wanted (I should have known better :faint:).

I've ruled out all competition except for an M&P, either a Pro model (shorter barrel with night sights) or with an Apex trigger.

The ergos on the Q cannot be touched by anything in my hands. Between that and the awesome trigger, the PPQ shoots better for me than any other striker fired pistol I've ever shot. In fairness though, I have little experience with timers, etc. so I don't have much to compare it to in that regard.

The M&P brings less muzzle flip to the party. I do believe the Q has got a bad rap with all the "snappy", "wrist breaking", "violent recoil" internet claims, but to say it doesn't exist at all, when comparing to an M&P or Glock is simply to live in denial IMO.

While the M&P feels OK in my hands, it pales in comparison to the majestic wonder that is the PPQ grip, clearly inspired by the "Gods of ergos". It's also been rumored that even an Apex kit still isn't as good as the PPQ trigger, though I've never tried one.

Now my dilemma: Finding a place to rent both an M&P (either Pro model or with an Apex trigger) and a PPQ, both in 9MM, is going to be tough.

All said, what really matters more -- better ergos and trigger, or less muzzle flip? I know this will be subjective, but insight is still appreciated.

This gun will make it's living in home defense, classes, possibly low level competition, possible occasional carry, etc.

Thanks!

Hey - who in the heck was the guy that was on here from ECSO? I remember talking to him a while back, and he knew my uncle; actually, they hunted together. My uncle is since retired from ECSO, and I wouldn't mind meeting up with the guy who is on here...

If anyone else is down this way, I'm here until Friday AM, bouncing back home then. It's a great trip, by the way. Went snorkeling and swam with dolphins today. Kids will be talking about this trip for quite some time. Wife just got pics of an osprey flying over our condo building, and I got some shots of the manta rays in the surf right in front of our condo. We also saw some F-22's out of Tyndall AFB this morning - good deal, since I'm a USAF junkie.

Gombey - I'll be heading back thru your AO Friday - we will likely stop for food there again. Did that on the way down, and I see that city is still a craphole...guess I shouldn't expect things to change for the better, huh? My sister was born at UAB, and Mom got her BSN there, as well.

I will be paying a visit back home on the way home...if that makes sense. I spend a few years as a kid in Walker county (Nauvoo, for those that know the area), and credit those times for making me into the man I became. I think back of living in the country fondly, and will be back there as soon as my youngest is eighteen (12 short years). I haven't been back home in almost 20 years, and am looking forward to the side trip.

Wifey wishes to stop in Lynchburg once back in TN, as she's a JD fan. So much so, that she had a bit too much, and was a grumpy little hungover bear yesterday

Anyway, if anyone is down in Santa Rosa or Escambia counties, hit me up. Wish we could come over to Mobile to see ya, BT, but not this trip. If anyone cares, I can post some pics of stuff we've seen. There's some nice vids of the dolphin trip, and other stuff. Having a great time, and this is exactly what we needed.

Oh, and it's our 16th anniversary today - things were such just a few short months ago, that I didn't think this day would come. Yay!!!

Lust- Characterized by desire for physical sex usually at any cost. The reproductive yearning plays a strong role. Danger is that a one night stand will result in reproduction but no family for the child and so harmful to society. In these days of birth control I wonder if it's still relevant.

Gluttony- Characterized by over eating and denying other people a fair share. Very common in modern civilization we see the characteristics in ourselves and neighbors in the form of fat 'asses'.

Greed- Characterized by the desire for things whether material or other, the main characteristic being that while greed covets things it is never satisfied by those things and thus always craving more. Effect on the human personality is that the greedy can never be satisfied.

Sloth- Characterized by laziness of some sort. Results are that other people have to work harder creating a burden on other people.

Wrath- Hatred and such is irrational and leads to irrational acts like homicide and all manner of man slaughter and violence. The main danger is that in lashing out recklessly the wrathful destroy themselves even if not their enemy. We see this a lot in foreign affairs, civil affairs, and family affairs. It is almost always harmful.

Envy- I think this overlaps with greed. Wanting things that you do not possess ensures that you are never satisfied with what you have.

Pride- The desire or belief that you are better than others. This belief has variously resulted in people behaving 'condescendingly towards other or even in 'ethnic cleansing' on the macro scale. I could write about this one all day but I'd just be paraphrasing from the Tao Te Ching.

Lets get this discussion going and see if we can come to some ethical questions and psychological aspects completely free of religious overtone. Is this 7 deadly sin concept a plan for happy, content, and fulfilled living polluted with spiritual overtones? Or is it a theological teaching having some small amount of psychological wisdom concealed in it?

NJ COP SHOT $20,000 REWARD

New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association President Anthony Wieners said, “"Regardless of whether a gun, a knife or a firebomb, NJ Cop Shot stands ready to assist with the capture of those responsible. We know the danger we face when we put on our uniform and head out each day, but this attack on a home and family is unspeakable."

Anyone with information should contact the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3300 or Middlesex County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-939-9600.

Bridgeport, CT – Today, a widely-anticipated lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Connecticut, challenging the constitutionality of the new firearms law that was passed hastily by the Connecticut legislature in response to the tragic shooting in Newtown by a disturbed individual. The lawsuit seeks immediate injunctive relief and a ruling declaring the new law unconstitutional under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. It alleges that Connecticut’s new firearms law is not only unconstitutional but dangerous, since it makes both citizens and law enforcement less safe by depriving citizens of firearms that are in common use throughout the country. The very firearms and design features banned by the new law are commonly used in part because of safety, accuracy and ease-of-use features that make them effective in the hands of citizens who must defend themselves and their families against criminals and the mentally ill who do not obey such laws.

Brought on behalf of individual gun owners, retailers, and citizen’s defense and sportsmen’s organizations, the lawsuit seeks to vindicate the constitutional rights of citizens who are harmed by the broad prohibitions and unworkable vagueness of the new law. The legal challenge focuses on Connecticut’s ban of more than 100 additional common firearms that the law now dubs “assault weapons” and on the ban of standard design features, including magazines that hold more than 10 round of ammunition, that provide improved safety, accuracy, and ease-of-use. The lawsuit also challenges the practical bans imposed by the new law on an even broader array of firearms due to the law’s vague language and interpretative confusion combined with severe criminal penalties.

Plaintiffs bringing the lawsuit include individuals such as an elderly widow who lives alone in a rural area where the emergency response time of a lone resident trooper serving the area is 45 minutes, a rabbi whose synagogue in the Bridgeport area has been broken into by intruders, a young professional woman whose efforts to defend herself are made more difficult by the loss of an arm due to cancer, among other individuals.

In addition, retailers whose businesses have been severely harmed by the law have joined the lawsuit, which was conceived and organized by fellow-plaintiff organizations the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, commonly known as CCDL, and the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen. Both organizational plaintiffs represent large numbers of Connecticut citizens whose rights to own the firearms of their choice for self-defense and other lawful purposes, such as sports shooting and hunting, have been harmed by the new prohibitions.

Despite the new law being called “An Act Concerning Gun Violence Prevention and Children’s Safety,” Connecticut’s new firearms law makes Connecticut citizens less safe. Among the individuals harmed by the law’s provisions are women, the elderly, and anyone of a smaller physical stature — individuals who typically lack the strength to operate older style, heavier, or difficult to use firearms and yet who need to be able to protect themselves in challenging home-invasion and other self-defense situations.

CCDL’s President, Scott Wilson, who has seen his organization’s membership grow from 2,500 to 7,600 in just a few months, says “On behalf of our members and all of the plaintiffs, we wish to thank the National Rifle Association, whose vision and stalwart defense of citizens’ fundamental rights has helped make this important legal challenge possible.” Wilson says, “Connecticut’s new gun ban violates Second Amendment rights by depriving law-abiding citizens of firearms that are in common use throughout the country precisely because of their known effectiveness in the protection of citizens, their families, and homes. Criminals and the mentally ill will not abide by this terrible law, which means it has the perverse effect of actually making citizens and law enforcement officers less safe.”

Bob Crook, Executive Director of the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen, says, “This law will do nothing to prevent a tragedy or solve the problem of crime committed with guns. Instead of violating constitutional rights, we need to get serious about addressing violence and mental illness.” He continued, “Two recent independent studies by Pew and the federal government have just revealed that gun homicides are down almost 40% and general crime involving guns has dropped a whopping 70% since 1993, which corresponds with the elimination of the federal assault weapons ban. In contrast, the few areas of the country where gun crimes have increased dramatically are the very places where local or state governments have banned or severely restricted gun ownership by law-abiding citizens.”

Many of the design features now banned by Connecticut’s new law have long been standard in firearms design as they enhance safety, accuracy and ease-of-use, and include: design features that enhance a citizen’s ability to balance a firearm properly so that it can be shot safely and accurately based on the size of the owner – especially if the owner is smaller-sized like many women, the elderly, and youth shooters (retractable shoulder stock); design features that allow a long gun to be held more easily for accuracy and to be held onto by its owner if an attacker tries to take the gun from a victim (pistol grip and forward pistol grip); design features that allow those who are in stressful situations with multiple home-invaders or attackers to have sufficient bullets for meaningful self-defense without impractical situation of having to try to reload or access a second gun (standard magazine capacities over 10 rounds), etc. The specific firearms now banned by the law include some of the most commonly used and popular models in Connecticut and in America today, including the light and versatile AR-15.

Some local retailers supporting the lawsuit say that in addition to the increased dangers created by the law, the law is vague and unworkable. Although they are knowledgeable about various types of firearms, many are having difficulty trying to determine which firearms are banned and which are legal to sell. If they decide incorrectly, they could be facing years in jail. Some say it is difficult for reputable dealers to continue serving the law-abiding citizens of Connecticut under these circumstances. If licensed dealers leave the state, it will become increasingly difficult for the people of Connecticut to acquire firearms to defend themselves. Meanwhile, these retailers say, the criminals will still be armed and in an even stronger position to harm and terrorize the people of Connecticut.

The Connecticut lawsuit, like similar legal challenges in New York, Colorado and Maryland, is expected to better define the limits of a citizen’s right to own a commonly used firearm of personal choice for self-defense, defense of family, and other lawful purposes. Each of these states has enacted new firearms laws that make citizens and law enforcement less safe as they try to defend against criminals and the mentally ill who do not obey these laws.

Ok, same rules as before. You have to answer the question choosing only 1 of the 2 options. You cannot create a 3rd option. You cannot refuse to accept either of the choices. You have to pick one!

Also - I know your answer might depend on the circumstances. For the example below, you might wonder what kind of bear it is, what type of weapon it is, etc. All of this is unknown - you have to pick only one of the answers based off the information provided. There is no guarantee of anything except what is written in the options. You are taking your chances.

So...

Would you rather:

Try to defend yourself from an attacking, enraged wild bear only armed with a good sword

Or

Try to defend yourself from an attacking, enraged wild bear only armed with a blow torch?

For me, I guess I would choose the blow torch. I don't think there is any way I could use the sword and actually stop the bear. My upper body strength is pretty much non-existant. :crying: But maybe I could scare the bear off with fire???

What would you choose?

I hope it's ok to post this here. If not, I suppose someone will move it or lock it. It IS General Firearms related.

I picked up a couple of classics over the last few days. I should have gotten them years ago, but kept putting them off, and putting them off. Finally bit the bullet, so to speak.

"Sixguns" is a recent edition. I didn't know it was still in print.

The copy of "Hell, I was There" is really interesting. The blurb on Amazon said "It's been written in by someone who apparently knew him and hunted and camped with him."

I was expecting some scribbling on the pages here and there. I was not expecting an autograph with that signature under it.

A machete-wielding attacker and his gun-toting sidekick killed a man in the streets of London on Wednesday, and police are regarding the pair – whom they subsequently shot – as potential terrorists.
The prime minister called the incident “truly shocking,” and said police are investigating it as a terrorist attack, BBC reported. Witnesses say they saw a man walking down Woolwich Street, when he was attacked by two individuals. They also said they heard at least one of the attackers scream ‘Allahu Akbar,” meaning God is great, during the course of the attack, BBC reported.

LaseMax kept my OEM slide stop switch and spring back in 95. I sent him the slide stop (from LM) and the spring as well.

History tells us that protecting a criminal president can be risky business.

No, Obama won't be impeached- Neither was Nixon.

No. Obama won't go to jail- Ford pardoned Nixon for any crimes he may have committed while in office.

But Mitchell, Haldeman, Erlichman, Colson, Dean, Liddy, Magruder, Segretti, McCord, Gonzalez et. al. all went to jail.

Hope you have a bottomless pit of money for lawyers, because prison, even one of those "country club" prisons, is not a pleasant place.

Just sayin'

I just finished adding Dawson Precision adjustable rear and fiber optic front sights to my G34. The front is a .355 tall .125 wide fiber optic and the rear is a Dawson Precision standard notch adjustable.

Dawson rears always have to be "fitted" and it took me almost an hour and a half of filing with a triangle needle file to get the rear sight fitted. File a little and try the fit. File a little and try the fit. Repeat 20 or so times and you've got it done right.

They came out nice. It will be a few days before I can try them due to rain for the next couple of days.

Walmart ammo tracking without an iPhone/iPad

Ammo has been a little thin at my local Walmarts the last 7 days. I track it with my iPhone and iPad using the Walmart app. I got to thinking something might be up, even ran accross some online rumors, so I scheduled an early morning trip to the one Walmart I know that plays totally by the rules. They roll the cart out at 7:00 am sharp. Here is the info for 05/22/2013

Rumor had it that Walmart had lowered the limit to just 1 box per day. This Walmart still had the 3 box limit posted.

The Walmart app was spot on. Nothing received except for Federal Match Auto .22, 325 count boxes, just like the app indicated. It took an hour for the app to show out of stock after the 10 boxes were sold.

The shelves were bare of all the good stuff, just like the app indicated.

Here is the cool item. I found this script for use on computers / devices that can't run the iPhone app and it was spot on, including the hour it took the iPhone to show out of stock. Here is the link

http://mobile.walmart.com/m/searchfi...2&city=&state=

You will need to change the Zipcode. Here are 2 more items I follow

http://mobile.walmart.com/m/searchfi...4&city=&state=

http://mobile.walmart.com/m/searchfi...2&city=&state=

You can get the product id's from the regular website. The line at the web page that reads "In stock status is approximate and was last updated on 05/19/2013 at 11:41 AM )" does not seem to be correct. It's a lot more current than that.
