Is there any difference between the Ameriglo I-Dot Pros and the Ameriglo GL 101's besides the white outline in the 101's?

I ask because I am slightly color blind the the Orange outline on the I-Dot Pros kind of hurts my eyes.

The white outline with the green inserts of the GL 101's would be perfect, but I want to know of they have the same construction of the I-Dot Pros such as the slanted back of the rear sight and same sight picture an whatnot.

If the 101's are identical to the I-Dot Pro's, but with a white outline they would be perfect for me.

Any knowledge would be appreciated

I have a little extra cash, for once, at I've found a couple of pistols that either would go well in the collection.

First is a well maintained Norinco 1911. The gun is like new made in the late 80's or early 90's its 95% one factory mag. Round court about ~200 Current owner is an older man who collected 1911 now he's decide to sell of most of the collection asking $525

Second is a plain jane CZ-75B made in 2011 both last year. Box and 2 mag. The current owner has fired ~ 500 round thru it. The gun is 95% . The owner wants something smaller, the CZ to him is too big for CCW. $500.00 solid

I come use a little in put on this. This is going to be a purchase that I have to smuggle into the house.

I keep reading stories about Google and other common providers handing e-mails over to virtually anyone who asks for them. [mediaite.com]

I have nothing of interest in my inbox, save some registration codes for software I've bought over the years. Still, I value my privacy and am interested in migrating my e-mails to somewhere secure. I own a few domains myself but the mail servers are through the hosting company. I have cable internet and am fairly proficient in basic IT work (I can't program but I'm not intimidated by changing a config file with a text editor.) so I'm not against running my own mail server.

Any suggestions?

me and her have been "dating" for the past 2 weeks. the pros far outweigh the cons, but the cons are freaking numerous.

1) this girl can not cook.

2) even though she's a country girl she has no idea how to live out in the country.

3) she can't drive a manual vehicle.

4) she's ok with shooting an animal like a feral pig, but that's where the fun stops. after it quits kicking and twitching she's done with it.

5) she's one of those "eeeeeew i got dirt under my nail!!!" types.

now for the pros

1) she's more fun that any 1 man deserves in any situation you can think of.

2) she drinks beer. actually she puts my old habits to shame. (by the way i'm started drinking again sue me)

3) she knows how to "snap shoot".

4) she carries a gun, and she's a better shot than i am. wait, maybe that should be one of her cons. lol

5) i offered to take her out to a nice dinner and a movie and she declined with the response "'d rather save the money and watch a movie here. you have hamburger buns and a grill right?"

6) when we discussed family she told me she has 3 older brothers, but instead of doing the usual chick thing and trying to intimidate me with them she told me that they'll either like me or she'll kick their asses.

7) when i told her i had stuff to do out in the shop she showed up and offered to help.

8) even though i was laid out on the couch with my shirt off and i have multiple pimples and whatnot on my back she didn't lunge at them with her deathclaws like most women would.

this girl aint exactly the easiest on the eyes but i think i'm in love anyway.

Sorry for the huge Picture. Didn't know how to make it smaller. This is my birthday present from my wife and my new EDC knife. It is also my first Benchmade knife. Its the H&K Conspiracy. Before this my EDC was a Ka-Bar TDI. I liked the TDI but a couple months ago like an idiot I let my CCW license expire by accident. And all I had to carry for about two months was just the TDI. So I got to thinking if I got into a jam and needed to defend myself it would probably be difficult to take down a BG with such a small blade. So the reason for the purchase of my new Benchmade.
The knife is a little heavier than I thought. Its a thick, heavy well built knife. I bought a Tek-Lok clip to use with it but apparently it doesn't fit on this sheath which sucked. It comes with a plastic belt loop which I'm using but it moves around a little bit when I'm carrying it. Its not too bad, I'll just have to get used to it. So far I'm impressed with the knife. Its very well built. I'm sure there will be more Benchmades to come in the future.

Hey guys. Went and picked up a Pearce +2 baseplate today for my G19. Installation was easy, but for the life of me I cant get 2 extra rounds in my mag, only one. Now I bought the Pearce +2 baseplate for the Gen3 model, as my G19 is a Gen3, but I read online that if your mags have the double notches in them like the Gen4 mags then the Pearce +2 baseplate (Gen3 model) will only add one round and that I needed the Gen4 Pearce +2 baseplate. Note: I have a new G19 Gen3 that is only a few months old and it came with the double notched mags. Has anyone else had this problem, or tried the Gen4 version of the Pearce Baseplate on a new Gen3? Thanks guys.

I was good in HS, not World Cup material, but a starter.

Teaching the boy. Been teaching him since he was a toddler. But also skiing and horseback riding and bicycles and baseball. All that stuff.

But he's recently taken more of an interest in soccer. Even while he's currently on a little league baseball team. Every evening he has me out in the back yard.

Got him signed up for a local town soccer league for this Summer. Plus some fellow Cub Scout dad has asked me if I want to join his over 30 team this Summer. I qualify for over 40, but the other dads aren't as old.

So I took the boy out shopping for cleats and shin pads and socks for the both of us. We've been suited up each evening, playing half field 1 on 1, open goal. Or taking turns as goalie.

I am beat. Out of shape. And he is learning quickly. I'm not playing rough with him. If I did, I'd have the huge unfair advantage. I was center full and center half in the olden days, so I've dropped a few guys on the field with legal tackles. But leaving that out of the mix, and not trying to over power the ball through him, and instead playing clean, it is tough to keep up with him.

It just happened suddenly, this Spring, stuff just started to click with his playing technique. He's keeping the ball in tight on his dribbles, and changing direction good, and using acceleration when he breaks past me. He's also picking the ball from my feet, and when defending keeping his position between me and the goal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's the best at his age in the world. I'm just happy that at this rate he'll get a couple years starting varsity when he reaches HS. I hope he gets that experience. The friends, the sport, the girls, you know, all that good stuff. Along with the academics.

But right now, the only thing that saves me from being completely bested by him is his attention span. After a half hour he's ready to go play on the playground or get a squirt gun out. And I'm about doubled over and huffing.

___________
I joined the NRA, have you yet?

I would like to take a professional training class (or two), as a civilian, but keep seeing recommendations for a gun with an optic. I have long arms and love the feel of my (A2) 20" AR, with a mid-length being passable, but I really dislike carbine-length guns. Is an optic a realistic, useful upgrade for someone who's right-handed/left-eye dominant and, if so, is it feasible for a rifle with a carry handle? If not, which optic would be best on a new mid-length/A4 build? If I'm not uber-competitive and just trying to simply be useful in a SHTF situation...am I better off just making the most of what I already have?

We're in the process of drawing up plans for an indoor, underground rifle range. We have room to build to 100 meters, but going to 100 yards will save us several 10's of thousand dollars. Is there competitions that require 100 meter, or is 100 yards sufficient?

Also looking for design information on shooting tables. From what I understand, bench rest shooters require a rock solid table, so post able stations may not be the answer.

Has anyone had any negative side effects of using Velcro on their shotguns to mount side saddles?

I am not worried about shells falling out, just the effect directly to the gun.

I have a new 870 tactical, and I really don't want to ruin the finish, and damage the gun.

My primary concern is rust getting started under the strip.

A bigger concern is after reading a thread when I goggled "rust & shotgun & Velcro"

Has anyone had any crazy side effects like the gentleman in the thread I read where the finish came off his 870 tactical?

Let's skip over all the Internet rumors about FTE, etc. and get to loading for the G36. By all accounts, the guns work perfectly with SD quality ammo. Similarly, there seem to be some problems with range ammo like WWB and Federal Champion. But let's just skip all that...

I have some Montana Gold 230 gr CMJ and some Extreme 230 gr TMJ plated plus some cast 200 gr LSWC and 230 gr LRN.

The question is, what works in a G36? I think I'm more interested in muzzle velocity than actual charge as I doubt we will have the same powders. Nevertheless, complete load data would be a help.

Anybody around here load for a G36?

EDIT: I'm thinking about 6.2 gr of Unique to get around 850 fps. I just happen to have a full can and nothing else to use it for.

I put together a 10-22 from parts and I am having trouble getting it to feed.

It was built to fire the Aguila 60 gr. The barrel has a 1 in 9 twist. After I got it together I tested it out for function by feed rounds through the action. I then took it out the the range. The first ten rounds went fine. I reloaded the mag and started having feeding problems.

The first three rounds stuck in the chamber half way in. It was really hard to get them out pulling on the charging handle. I took it back into the house and cleaned it. I checked the chamber to see if it was to tight by dropping a round in the chamber and pulling it back out. That went well, there was no problem. It fell into the chamber and was very easy to pull out. Put it all back together after cleaning and went back to my range. The first three fired then I got four no fires then one round fired that wasn't all the way chambered and blew out the side next to the rim. I went back in the house and cleaned the gun and checked to make sure that the bullet had went out the barrel.

I then polished the chamber with qtips on the end of a drill with a little Flitz polish. I ran twenty qtips into the chamber half with the Flitz then one with out. It seemed to polish up nice.

Back to the range. Nothing had changed the first three didn't feed more than half way into the chamber. Then they started going in deeper. Maybe sticking out by only a 1/4". The last round chambered all the way and fired. I filled the mag again and more of the same. I quit for the day.

The next day I took the new barrel off and put the old barrel on and it failed to feed CCI stingers. They would get stuck half way in the chamber. I changed back to the new barrel then tried to feed the 60gr through it. No luck they would go part way in the chamber part of the time out of 10 rounds only one chambered completely.

I am at a loss as to what could be wrong. I thought goop or wax was causing the problem but that isn't so because you can drop the rounds in the barrel with out cleaning it with no problems.

I have ordered a Kidd charging handle with the three springs. May be the old spring isn't giving enough power the put the case in all the way. I do know that I put in a new plastic buffer and it has been beat up really bad. So I ordered the Kid version of the buffer too.

I am at a loss as to what is wrong. Any one have any ideas? The mags are new and just to be safe I took one apart to clean it and shouldn't have bothered. It was fine as I thought it would be.

Thank you much for your time.

The teller then looked at me like I just killed a kitten.I then told her that I meant money and walked off.

I really didn't mean to use slang,it just came out.
Does this ever happen to you?

I've had the Surefire X300U for a while now but never did a review; so here goes...

Pros:
-500 lumens with a good balance of throw/spill
-Uses two 3V CR2 lithium battery.
-Comes with a 1913 and universal mount/insert so it'll fit most modern rail systems to include rifles
-It handles recoil well. I've used the light on my G20 with hot ammo as well as on an AK with 0 issues from the recoil
-Rocker switch can be used for temporary and constant on modes
-Great warranty
-Great reputation for durability
-4oz weight

Cons:
-1.5 hours of constant on. The old battery life vs lumens issue is at play here.
-It's extremely tight when mounted on some guns. This could be a pro for some but, on my Glocks for example, the light is seemingly stuck on the gun and I've had to tap it with a rubber mallet while pulling down the tabs before to get it off.
-Price. No getting around it---it's expensive. It generally runs around $210-240.

Summary:

It's an excellent all around weapon light. It's versatile, bright, and durable. The big question is whether or not it's worth the money. Only you can answer that ultimately I suppose.

Here's a video showing the light in use on several guns, a comparison with some different lights, some night shooting, and a discussion of the pros/cons of the light:

A friend of mine just bought a used RIA full size 1911. I don't know much about 1911's other than basic operation and field stripping. I'm going to get it cleaned up and lubed for him and thought I might replace the old worn out rubber grips. The only brand I know of is VZ, and while I'm sure they are good, they're more than I'd like to spend. Any suggestions on decent grips for about half that price? I don't even know what makes a quality 1911 grip. I see lots at gun shows, but I always assumed they were sub par in some way. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just a few things that come to mind:

1. How do you manage security? You could ran into a group of robbers. Even 1-2 would be hard to handle unless you shoot everybody on sight.
2. How do you manage injury or sickness? Even just the basic wear and tear would put you out.
3. What terrain you plan to cross? Regular highways or snowy mountains?
4. What about the weather? You can't expect 70 degree with sunshine all the way, can you? One rain would destroy probably 90% of your goodies in your BOB.
5. How far do you plan to go? 10 miles or 100 miles? On foot or in a car? Keep in mind, when you bugging out, there might be thousands of others doing the same.
6. Where do you plan to go? Does your destination have food, water, shelter and security etc.?

“In the rare case that an officer attempts to issue an NTA, it must first be approved by a secretive panel created under DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, which often denies the officer’s request," Palinkas explains. "Illegal aliens are then permitted to remain in the United States as USCIS officers are not able to take action or contact ICE agents for assistance.”

"Perhaps most importantly, Palinkas argues that the current political leadership at his agency holds the belief that USCIS's role is not to serve America or Americans; rather, he claims they believe that USCIS is supposed to serve the illegal immigrants and the immigration lawyers who come through the doors of the agency on a regular basis."

“The attitude of USCIS management is not that the Agency serves the American public or the laws of the United States, or public safety and national security, but instead that the agency serves illegal aliens and the attorneys which represent them,” Palinkas said. “While we believe in treating all people with respect, we are concerned that this agency tasked with such a vital security mission is too greatly influenced by special interest groups—to the point that it no longer properly performs its mission.”

Does anyone know how to pull the top piece off of the lower section. I need to remove the metal leaf that keeps the blade from moving around. This leaf makes the fit of the glock knife a little too tight. I figure if I remove one side of the leaf or remove it completely, it will be a nice alternative to the stock glock sheath.

One of the advantages of .40 (or 357SIG) Glocks is that they can easily be converted to 357SIG (or conversely to .40), or to 9mm, if not quite so easily or directly.

In converting to 9mm, a third party conversion barrel is necessary, along with a 9mm magazine. The slide stays the way it is, designed for a .40 case head.

The question being, would you trust a .40 converted to 9mm as a self defense weapon? Are there more likely to be feeding/extraction/ejection issues when converted?

I'm thinking in terms of a G27 as the base gun, but I don't think it matters which is the base model.

Are these seasonal? Every few years? Sorry Ron, you missed the boat? Saw a 17L set up with a red dot milled into the slide at a recent shoot and would really like to have one. Always liked the look and I would enjoy having a completely impractical gun for pure fun since I already have a purely practical G26.

May Ayoob was kind enough to review my book, School Administrators Guide to Practical Handgun Training. I try to pull the subject away from whether guns are good, bad, evil, whatever. I attempt to simply address the question; what is the most effective way to protect those inside a school from an armed assault until such time as the armed, properly equipped and trained first responders get there?

I first met Mas sometime during the middle 1980s when I was a lt. with the NYPD Firearms and Tactics Unit. Good guy.

Anyway, here's the link to his article:

Went to a LGS today and there was a Glock 27 Gen3 with the green frame. Price was $490 brand new. I had some trading bait and we did the deal. Born on 5-8-13. I like the smoother grip on the Gen3 and even like the smaller mag release. If I was getting a G23 I think I would get the Gen 4 to get the dual recoil springs however. Not a issue on the G27 as both generations have the dual springs.

Took it down to the range here and put about 40 rounds through it. Had one failure to feed but that was out of a full new very stiff 22 round mag. I think the extra pressure slowed the slide down enough to cause it or it was the fact my pinky was pulling the mag backwards some. Out of the standard 9 round and a 15 round not any issues at all.

Very accurate. Just as accurate as my long gone G26. I was surprised it shot so well. Ejection was great. Strong and up and away at a perfect 2'oclock. Hope it keeps that up. Extractor held the shell firm. It would pass the old 1911 shell grab test easy. I shot Speer gold dots 165 and Win 180 gr Bonded white box. The gov't overrun. Couldn't really tell if one recoiled more than the other. The same as far as my hand goes. From memory I would say it's recoil was same as my G26 with 124gr+p. Thats about it for now. So far quite please and very relieved on the ejection of the spent case. Why it kicked them out like Hickock45's Glocks.

Oh P.S. I noticed the shell ejected the same in a full mag same as the last one with a empty mag. Did that 3 times to check. Some pistols seem to toss that last shell casing crazily. But this pistol put it out just like it was on a string with the rest of the empties out of the clip. So it would appear that the shell isn't dependant on riding the other shells in the magazine to eject. Nice.

I have a situation that maybe some of you guys can give advice on.

The LCR's trigger "apex" (curvature where your finger would fit it) seems to be somewhat high, and part of my finger is close to the top of the frame. When the gun recoils repeatedly, a blister/cut develops on that part of my finger from the frame snapping into it.

I use the first joint on my finger to pull, and the second joint is right about where the frame hits it.

I've contemplated just wrapping some athletic tape on that area for extended shooting, but wanted to see if others had ideas.

I have an M&P40 on layaway at the LGS, hoping to bring it home in a month or two. I have a few questions about the pistol.

1) Is the gun still suffering from rust issues or has S&W fixed those issues?
2) I've noticed that not all M&Ps have "Stainless" stamped on the slide. Has S&W moved away from stainless steel?
3) Are night sits available from S&W?
4) Will S&W still warranty the pistol if I have the slide refinished by another company?

I rented one and shot it a bit and decided to pick one up. I hope I'm not disappointed!
