I know we beat the 22 rifle for survival to death. It is either the best thing there is or the worse. One thing that usually pops up during a discussion about using a 22 for self defense is that the Israelis used a suppressed 10/22 to shoot protesters during the intifada (Palestinian uprising). The tactic was to shoot protesters in the groin as a non lethal method of discouraging them. Unfortunately the femoral artery is in the groin area and more than a few rock throwers died. Made the Israelis look bad so they stopped using it for riot control.

Here is one of the more famous photos of the Israelis 10/22s from back in the day.

They apparently did not stop using the 10/22 for other things however, like sniping. Here is a photo from a Palestinian newspaper from Feb 2013. Same guns, different optics, even using a hi-cap mag. The Pals were complaining that the Israelis are now using the 10/22 as a sniping rifle to murder innocent people silently.

You have to admit that a quiet shot in the right place from a 22 has some advantages.

Why do people sing the praises of others who they perceive to be wealthy, but live in modest houses, drive older vehicles, wear normal clothes, etc? Why shouldn't rich people live a more lavish lifestyle than Joe Average? What makes the loaded guy who drives a ten year old pickup better than the guy with the same amount of money who drives a brand new Porsche?

Per my other recent thread, I will be in the market for a new F150. It looks like the ecoboost gets 2-3 mpg better than the 5 liter v8. But the ecoboost adds $1000 to the price. I only put 6-8k miles on my truck per year so I'm wondering if its worth the expense.

I rarely tow so torque isn't that much of a consideration. Does the ecoboost / turbo charger necessitate more frequent oil changes? Any real world stories from ecoboost owners?

And yes, I am 110% sure that I am not hitting it with my thumb. I shot it left handed and let someone else shoot it too.

Here is the kicker, it was only happening with 135 grn JHP and it has never happened before today. I picked up a box of Sierra 135 gr JHP and loaded them in brand-new Starline brass and brought them with my 180 gr cast rounds. I had a few issues with the slide locking back and noticed it was only the 135 gr loads. I started switching back and forth between 180 and 135 and it always happened with the 135. I also tried alternating the mags to rule that out as well. It only happens with the 135.

Have you guys ever experienced anything like this? It was rather odd

I was out at a nice dinner with my family, when the waiter stepped behind my chair with a tray full of drinks, specifically kir royales and a Sprite. He lost balance with the tray, and all the drinks landed squarely on my back.

I was wearing an untucked golf shirt made of microfiber material over khakis and my gun belt, which held my MTAC Minotaur IWB and my G23 at 3:30. The drinks passed through the shirt with zero resistance and dumped right on my pistol and then into the gap right down the back of my pants. It was, um, refreshing!

When I got home, everything seemed like it was dry, but when I pulled the mag, it was wet on the sides. Further, over the next day, dust and lint was collecting in the groves more than usual. I knew I was going to have to open her up and take a look under the hood.

With each part I removed, I found more and more places wet. I ended up having to do a complete detail strip, disassembling everything (except the sights) down to the smallest components. There was sticky sweet liquid in every nook and cranny. I gave everything a bath in hot water and Simple Green, scrubbing everywhere with a toothbrush, then blew them all out with compressed air. Put it all back together, six drops of lube, fresh ammo, and she's GTG.

I don't think there's really a moral to the story. Just thought I'd share.

"Therefore, only one conclusion can be drawn: The fact that atheists have resorted to the multiverse argument constitutes a tacit admission that they have lost the argument about design in this universe. The evidence in this universe for design — or, if you will, the fine-tuning that cannot be explained by chance or by "enough time" — is so compelling that the only way around it is to suggest that our universe is only one of an infinite number of universes."

There are dozens... hundreds(?)... of posts in the Classifieds that are over 1 and even 2 years old. Most are not marked 'Sold' and you have to cruise through them and hope to get a response from the poster as to whether the items are still available or not.

How about just deleting any post that's over 6 months old or so... or at least if it's had no activity for that long. or something.
It's quickly getting to the point where it's a pain in the keister to even cruise through the ads, because so many of them aren't valid any longer.

Want a thick stripper to put on and blast off with a pressure washer to save time. What work's best in your experience? I'd prefer to use a green product but if they don't work... I did research but a brand name would help.

I could sand or bead blast but did'nt want to spend the money. It's an off-road trailer project and funds for it after a new tranny for wifes truck are limited. Thanks in advance.

I have a H&R 12ga. Single shot shotgun and want to find a Limbsaver recoil pad that will directly screw into the wood stock. Searching the internet, I've found two suggestions that may or may not work.

First is Limbsaver # 10003. Someone said this one would work if your shotgun came with a recoil pad from the factory. If it didn't you'd have to cut 1" off the stock for it to work. I don't recall any single shots coming with a recoil pad from the factory, but I could be wrong.

The second is Limbsaver # 10702. This seem to be for a Beretta shotgun and was said to fit right on the end of the wood stock.

I really don't want to get a slip-on since I don't like the way they look, so I'm hoping some Limbsaver out there mates up to the stock as well as the screw holes. Considering these things are cheap and everywhere, I'm surprised Limbsavers hasn't made a direct replacement for them yet. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I've cut the barrel to 18.5", put on a new bead, refinished the stock and forend so I'm hoping to put on a Limbsaver pad as the final touch.

Greetings, Thinking about adding a HI VIZ front sight only to one of my Glocks. Know this is a personal choice, but to those who have tried both colors - do you prefer red or green?

The red looks like it may stand out better in most general lighting situations, but the green may be more visible in lower-light conditions.

Thanks in advance.

The good news is that I saved up, pretty crazy for a guy who just turned 23, and bought a nice Glock 19 from a buddy of mine.
He only put a few hundred rounds out of it and it looks brand new. I got the gun for 450 with all the stock goodies, and he threw in 2 Glock 33 round magazines!

"The clothing kerfuffle began when Marcum wore a shirt bearing the NRA’s logo and a hunting rifle. As he stood in line in the cafeteria, a teacher ordered him to either change shirts or turn it inside out.

"Marcum declined and was sent to the office, where an officer was dispatched after he again refused to comply with the school’s request.

"Cops arrested him and charged him with disrupting the educational process and obstructing an officer."

Why and how did this become "obstructing an officer"?

Why isn't this a violation of the boy's First Amendment Freedom of Speech? This a government school, so the First Amendment is in force. Why are the teacher and the principal not being charged with violating his civil rights? After all, wearing a T-shirt with none of the seven forbidden words is as much an exercise of freedom of speech as burning a USA flag in protest of something or other.

...

Hi Mas,

I know you don't really like situational questions like this because there can be so many variables involved but I'll ask anyway. :-)

Over in carry issues we have a topic going where I put forth that there might be some who carry with a primary concern being fear of taking a punch.

What I was getting at is that to me it seems if you as the defender do not have a condition such as age, gender, medical issue or extreme physical overmatch, and are otherwise an able bodied male, then deployment of a firearm to ward off a potential punch/punches or in response to a punch from another able bodied male would not be a reasonable response.

I was not referring to a situation where you are the victim of a predatory street crime or multiple assailant attack. For the sake of discussion I put forth a verbal dispute gone bad, someone gets mad and takes a swing at you.

Some expressed that taking a punch, or potentially taking a punch presents a level of danger that they would deploy the firearm as a response if deescalation or fleeing we're not possible. Evidence was given relating personal experiences as well as news items where a man was punched and killed, or punched and fell and suffered severe injury or death to demonstrate that a punch is very dangerous. Or it was pointed out that a punch is but a prelude and the situation could quickly escalate in terms of their actions against you.

I don't disagree that a punch is a danger but my thought is that such incidents where a punch results in death or crippling injury are rare to the point that it would not be a reasonable legal argument in front of a judge or jury to point to such news items as to why a person deployed a firearm versus a fist. I counter that unless you have an aforementioned physical issue which creates a disparity of force problem, and unless the aggressor has the immediate means and intent to cause you crippling injury or death, the firearm is not a reasonable response to a fist. Perhaps that immediately changes if it goes from a punch to you being down on the ground and he escalates to feet, etc.

I agree if a guy is medically disabled, elderly, etc. and has no other means of defense then he has a disparity of force problem and it might be likely that "taking a punch" could result in loss of life or limb so it is not reasonable to expect him to do so and deployment of the firearm might be a reasonable response.

Others I think rightly stated that every problem is not a nail and open hand skills, spray, etc. should be part of the repertoire of skills.

What do you say in regards to the danger of a punch from an immediate in the moment response perspective and from a legal perspective regarding reasonable force in response? I suppose there is not a hard right or wrong because of variables but if you could provide some guidance or additional materials we should consider that would be great.

Thank you.

I've downloaded various videos over the past using the 'Skippity - Video Download' add-on in Firefox (currently using FF 21.0).

The targeted video normally downloads fine, BUT... I keep finding duplicate downloads in the download folder, showing 0 K file size, but they each run once per day and I can't seem to figure out how to stop them.

Any idea what's going on? Why are they continuing to show a daily download, but I'd guess they are showing "0" file size because I don't have the video open to download.

I'd removed the program, but it is handy in other ways so I'd prefer to keep it unless I/we can't figure out how to stop these 'phantom downloads'.

Thanks.
