Obama's senior energy and climate adviser, Heather Zichal, said the plan would boost energy efficiency of appliances and buildings, plus expand renewable energy. She also said the Environmental Protection Agency was preparing to use its authority under the Clean Air Act to regulate heat-trapping pollution from coal-fired power plants.

"The EPA has been working very hard on rules that focus specifically on greenhouse gases from the coal sector," Zichal said.

Zichal, speaking at a forum hosted by The New Republic in Washington, said that none of the proposals would require new funding or action from Congress. It has shown no appetite for legislation that would put a price on carbon dioxide after a White House-backed bill to set up a market-based system died in Obama's first term with Democrats in charge.

a few hours later an old buddy of mine calls and asks if i want to go fishing in 2 weeks, and there's probably going to be some shooting too (he's supplying the ammo). i said yes.

me and him were just talking on facebook and this little "fishing" trip has turned into some sort of weird, fishing, shooting, calf roping, guitar playing, antique car hunting, 8 person epic adventure.

this could be fun, or this could be hell. all i know is that 3 weeks ago work would be so important that this wouldn't be happening at all.

still not touching the piggy bank though.

Since I finally got a Glock front sight tool in the mail, I decided to swap out the TFOs for Redback 1 sights on my new-to-me OD G19. This was the first sight swap I have done, and it went pretty smoothly. Did it pretty much caveman style - steel punch, no vise, slide resting on a roll of 100mph tape. I used a small brass hammer though, which helped to avoid putting too much oomph into it. Really liking these sights!

Hello all,

We just planned a trip to take our son to Sesame Place in Pennsylvania. Just wondering if anyone else on here has been there, and if they have any helpful advice they could share from their experience.

We will be going in August and our son will be almost two years old by then. It's about a four hour drive for us and we will be staying at a hotel for 3 nights and it's about 20 minutes from the park. We will be going to the park twice while down there. Also, if you have any other suggestions of other things to check out in the area, that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

What are the differences in regards to shooting charactors among full size, compact, & subcompact?

Comparing full size & subcompact, I feel subcompact comes back on target quicker than full size.
After two recent GSSF matches (two matches are not much to make any conclusion though I just started) with 31, 33, 21, & 30, I did better with subcompacts.
I am not sure if I did better with subcompact because I first shot full size then subcompact (31 then 33, & 21 then 30). Or is it just coincidence?

Many competitors seem to like full size (or 34/35) that I am guessing due to the longer sight radius for accuracy.

That's so far I've noticed.
I do not have any compacts (yet).

What do you think?
Are there any other differences besides their size?
What are the facts?
Any physics explanations?

I would appreciate any inputs to help me understand.

David Codrea has been reporting that Michael Bloomberg's organization "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" has a bus touring the country holding rallies in favor of gun control, but they are not sharing the itinerary in the hope that pro-liberty activists will not be there to attend the rally. The idea is that they want the news cameras to show only advocates for restricting the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.- courtesy of Ed Stone
The scheduled stop for Atlanta is out of the bag.
What: No More Names Rally
When: Monday, June 24th, 11:30 AM.
Where: Georgia State Capitol
206 Washington Street SW
Atlanta, GA 30334
I think I might just go down and give them a great big Southern open carry welcome.

So I just picked up a brand new Glock 27 gen 3. Took it shooting the other day and the first 30 or so rounds I had no issue. Then I had a failure to feed where the bullet didn't even come close to feeding. I figured ok, just breaking it in a bit. Then I had a bullet try to feed but wouldn't. I tried different mags and it would not feed into the G27. I examined the bullet and it appeared to be fine. So I pulled out my G22 and it fed no problem. Took out the Springfield XDm and again no issue. Try to chamber it into the G27 and it just wouldn't feed right. I put the bullet in my pocket and decided to take it home for further inspection.

So I decided to keep shooting. I then had a couple more failure to feeds where the bullet wouldn't even come close to chambering. Now I've put over 4,000 rounds through my Glock 22 alone and I have never had this issue. I decided to really grip the G27 tight and once I did that everything seemed to feed fine. I'm definitely going to take it to the range again to make sure it's 100% reliable.

Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

Scored a free WASR-10 today. Nothing special to look at, but it shoots straight and is 100% reliable so far.

Was given to me by my father today. He got it on the cheap several years and never did anything with it. I normally wont accept anything money wise from my folks, but I held my tongue and just took it today.

I am covered up to my elbows in the stuff but its cleaned up and lubed now.

Only came with two mags, so I need to start looking for some soon. I was very glad to see it did not have an issue with the front sight being canted. As far as AK's go it was pretty accurate also.

The stock is pretty pitiful. Its got a lot of cosmoline soaked up into it and the grain of the wood is pretty awful.

Haven't made my mind up if I want to take the wood off and set it out in the sun, then try to refinish or just put a synthetic stock on it.

Hopefully the mag crisis has died enough I can locate some spares. I know my local shops all have plenty of AR15 Pmags for ~$14 on the shelves, so hopefully some AK mags will turn up.

Hey all,

My laptop is just about on its last leg and I have been looking for something to replace it with.

One thing caught my eye and that is the new Dell XPS 18. It is a touch screen system running Windows 8 with keyboard and mouse. The kicker is that the monitor doubles as an 18 inch TABLET that weighs right at 5 pounds and has 4+ hours battery life.

From what I have read and seen of it, it looks like it would be a nice system. I'm not a gamer and I won't be doing any heavy duty computing in the near future. Basically internet, MS Office, music, movies, pictures and the usual stuff that most people do with computers these days.

I'd like to know if anyone has one and if so, what you think of it. What's your thoughts on a system like this? It's not that much different than a 17 inch laptop, in fact this system would probably be more portable than a 17 inch laptop.

Opinions?

Thanks

I'm experiencing a number of FTFs lately. My Gen 4 Glock 23 is five months ago. The first 299 rounds across that time period was flawless. The 300th was my first FTF. Now I've experienced 3 FTFs in the last 150 rounds. I thoroughly cleaned my Glock after, the last session (it wasn't the first cleaning) but I had yet another today. I have been using the same single magazine the whole time. Suggestions as to what's causing this? Looking at how the magazine feeds the rounds, it looks like they go in at a slight angle. Is this normal? Is it just my imagination that they're at an angle? I tried to capture it with these photos. <a href="http://glocktalk.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=234060" target="_blank" title="Name:

So, I'm shopping for a new company. My options based on the online quotes I've gotten are State Farm, Farmers, The Hartford, or possibly Geico. Who are you guys with, and would you recommend them? I'm leaning strongly towards The Hartford, or possibly Farmers.
Edited to add, my current insurance is with Travelers.

Hey guys and gals...

went to the range last weekend and was practicing rapid double taps. I put a hundred rounds through the SR9c, and my Steyr M40.

I was shooting at a silhouette at 12 feet, and fifteen feet. When shooting at the head, I can, draw, and get two within about 3 inches within a couple of seconds. When shooting lower, center mass, the first shot would be right where I wanted it, but the second would always fly low and left.

I had a four by four inch square of masking tape on the chest where the heart would be, and the first shot would always be center of that square, the second would be about three inches low, and two or three inches left.

It is still in "center mass" but there is something I am doing wrong in my recovery that is pulling me way off. I notice that when I am aiming lower, my left arm is bent at a slightly different angle, and I am assuming that has something to do with it. Any thoughts?

I have a gen 1 17L used in the orginal box I bought simply because you (or I in this case) rarely ever see them. As I suspected the internals had been upgraded, but it came with 2 bbls, one ported with matching serial numbers to the slide and frame and one non-ported with a different number (looks to be a gen 2 17L bbl to me).

So my question for the experts - Was the ported bbl a factory option at this time? I numbers match, so it's the correct bbl for the gun, but I'm not sure if it may have been done by a smith after the purchase. Not like it's marked 17L C or anything like that.

Okay so I'm going to be doing a 40 mile hike on the AT in a few months and I find myself contemplating which firearm to take. While backpacking every ounce you can shed is a big advantage. I've recently picked up a g20 to be my primary trail gun, but the more I thought about it I'm not sure it would be my best choice for this hike. Mostly because any wildlife we could possibly encounter may be small enough that my g32 or even g33 would suffice. This will be a stretch of the AT in northern Virginia so if anyone has experience with this area feel free to chime in on what may be appropriate. I don't know anything about the wildlife in this area.
Is the added weight and bulk of the g20 worth toting it around in this area or is it overkill?
Thoughts?

my local range had a "open day" where they let non-members try the diffrent shooting sports, skeet , hi-power rifle, idpa, cowboy action.

i spent a little extra to shoot the M107A1. beautiful rifle, light trigger i would buy it if the rifle shot .308 unlike my Army brethren I never got to shoot .50 BMG in the AF so I wasn't expecting the concussive blast of a .50 going off.

there was a old washing machine and while they say i managed to hit it about 3 out of 5 times I had to look at the guy next to me to see if I hit anything at all because by the time I recovered from the shock that round was long gone

there was a Japanese teenager here as a trainer for one of the Japanese restaurant in town and after he tried the .50 BMG i gave him a spent casing and told him when he goes back home he needs to tell all of the Japanese folks that ask him this is what we shoot every day

so to expand upon Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto quote.
"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass"

and that rifle is a .50 BMG

Taking on Zero Tolerance in Schools

Gun Owners (of...

Taking on Zero Tolerance in Schools
Supporting 14-year old Jared Marcum of West Virginia, USA
FROM GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA

Gun Owners (of America) Foundation has come to the defense of a West Virginia teenager being prosecuted (a.k.a., persecuted) for pro-gun views.

Jared Marcum wore a T-shirt to his Logan County middle school in West Virginia on April 18 -- a decision that has since sparked a national controversy.

No, Jared’s T-shirt did not depict a Muslim beheading a victim while shouting Alahu Akhbar! Such depictions of violence would violate the school’s dress code. Jared’s T-shirt depicted a hunting rifle with the message: “Protect Your Right.” And now, he faces up to a year in jail for doing so!

This outrageous case has prompted the involvement of the Gun Owners Foundation, which has agreed to help Jared pro bono. People can help Jared Marcum by going to our foundation’s site and giving a contribution.

It all began on April 18. Everything was fine for the morning classes, but then the day went goofy when an anti-gun teacher confronted Jared in the lunch line and told him to turn his shirt inside out. Jared pointed out that his shirt did not violate school policy. The teacher sent Jared to the office where the same back and forth was repeated with the administration. Then a police officer was summoned who ordered Jared to turn his shirt inside out. Jared told the officer and the administration that he was doing nothing wrong.

According to the officer, Jared’s shirt constituted a terrorist threat. He did not put that in his written report, but instead charged Jared with obstructing an officer (apparently Jared interrupted the officer while he was talking to the administration). Jared was cuffed, charged and told that he could be fined up to $500 and spend up to a year in jail. The prosecutor decided to press the charge, and a judge allowed the prosecution to proceed. In a town of less than 2,000, what are the odds that at least five adults are this insane? And all on the same day? Zero Tolerance in Logan County W.V. may be better understood as Zero Judgment.

Jared was suspended for a day. When he returned to school, around 100 students wore similar shirts, and Jared wore the same shirt that fried the brains of five grownups two days earlier. Nothing happened. None of the students heard a word about their T-shirts.

Jared Marcum is to be commended for his courage, and the Gun Owners Foundation is actively supporting his case. Usually, Gun Owners Foundation supports individuals appealing convictions on firearms charges that involve constitutional issues. But we think that Jared’s case merits special attention; as it involves both First and Second Amendment freedoms and a courageous 14-year old boy.

If we are not allowed to make pro-Second Amendment statements -- all because somebody is offended -- then we can count the days to when we’ll lose the freedoms enshrined in both Amendments.

If Jared prevails in this case, we may have finally reached a turning point regarding Zero Tolerance, which is one of the most insidious policies being inflicted on the nation’s young people.

ACTION: While GOF is helping defend Jared Marcum pro bono, there are obviously significant costs involved. So please help by making a tax-deductible contribution to Gun Owners Foundation. You can assist in the Jared Marcum defense by giving a contribution to GOF here.

Started off from 7 yds with the Blazer ammo. My initial point of aim was dead center of the bullseye, which brought my hits too high. Here is the target after my first seven rounds:

I was thrilled to see such tight grouping from this pistol, as I was not really too concerned about accuracy, but rather just seeing how the CCO felt in the hand, reliability, etc…
So, second magazine my point of aim became the “lollipop” sight picture, and BAM, the point of impact was right where I wanted it!

ZERO malfunctions through the first 100 rounds or so, and then……failure to lock back after last round. This occurred once or twice, at which point I took some Q-tips and swabbed out the area around the slide lock (on the interior of the slide) and was back in business with NO further problems. (I have two Wilson Combat mags in the mail, if indeed the failure to lock back occurred as a fault of the factory Checkmate mags?)

The trigger pull was like none I had ever experienced: light, predictable, short return, and smooth.
This thing is a SHOOTER!!
As I got more comfortable, I began to double tap and “dump” a mag full into the target. Accuracy barely suffered, even at full speed shooting.

From 25 yds out, my POI was way high……and I remember reading about some CCO models needing a taller front sight? Will Dan Wesson send me the correct sight? What kind of pusher do I need to install?

I ran a Bore Snake through the barrel every so often, and wiped the feed ramp down with Q-tips. Near the end of my session, I had problems with some Golden Saber JHP, in which the very last round would not feed into the chamber…..but seemed to be nosedived into the base of the ramp?
I wiped it down and went back to the PMC bronze JHP, and the problem went away.

I could not believe how many times my shots would literally hit the same hole I had just shot! I started getting cocky and taking insanely difficult shots (hitting just one replacement dot from the Shoot N See target) and have never had such an accurate pistol.

I have been shooting lots of double action revolver lately, so perhaps that translates into a much easier time with a single action?

Very satisfied with this 1911, and am happy to have one of my dream carry guns.
VZ Black Cherry 320’s are in the mail……and a TT Gunleather IWB & Wilson Combat mags.
