You carry a Gun for a reason and youre right you will more than likely never need to use it.
If the day comes that you do need to use it does it make sense to have more than enough ammo ?
To me, it does.

I normally at least have one extra in my car. Depending on how I am carrying I may have it with me. Besides the extra rounds the extra mag may come in handy if you have a malfunction. You can clear and load a fresh mag. And since I carry a Glock 27 or 23 most of the time I use a model 22 mag as my spare. Better to have it and not need it..then need it and not have it.

If you read some of the latest gun magazine articles the trend is not only bring enough gun but bring enough ammo. Some feel if you are in a situation to put down someone who is on a shooting spree and protected with body armor, one magazine is not enough.

I feel like this, I am going to defend myself and brake contact anyways so having an extra mag shouldn't really hurt to have. I do not carry one but I do not carry a pistol to hold out for a long battle anyways.
