Are YOU Ready????OpSec, The OTHER Necessity in your Survival Plans!!!
The purpose of this Blog is to address somethings that you need to do BEFORE disaster strikes.
1. Have a Plan!!! No really, a PLAN. One that has been carefully thought out and practiced its execution. You have amassed a large quantity of food and weapons and ammo, right?? You are going evacuate to ******.
Great you are half-way to surviving. Just a few questions. Is your food/guns/ammo cache at your home. How will you get it to your bug out location? Great! You have a vehicle that will carry all of it? Have you tried loading it all into your vehicle/trailer?? Have you?? Were you out of breath? Surprised at how heavy all that stuff is and how long it took you to get it loaded???? Did you have someone standing security watch over you while you loaded your life saving supplies??
What route will you be taking? Alternate routes if your route is blocked?? You have thought of that right? It may not be like your drive to work everyday..orderly, flowing traffic, courteous drivers...etc.
During a crisis, the best comes out in some people and the worst in others. Since we don't have to worry about the good people at this point, lets talk about the bad. In selecting your route, think about the areas you will be passing through. Residential (good or bad), industrial, farmland. All will have bridges, turns in the road( natural ambush sites), and people trying to get out of Dodge too won't all be good people.
The first part of your plan should be OpSec (Operational Security)
All the food, ammo, survival gear and guns are worthless if you don't survive to get to use them!!
Starting right now. Pay attention to your surroundings. Situational awareness is the first step to OpSec. Your head should be constantly scanning your area.
Threats don't come out of nowhere. They are there, you just need to be looking. Is there something out of place as look out the window before you come out of your house?? Is there a car that does not belong there? Maybe it is the neighbors kids boyfriends car. It may be a bunch of gang bangers who have been casing the neighborhood and saw you carrying guns in and out of your house on the trips to the range. If it is the neighbors kids boyfriends car, no worries, but if it is the other......you need to see it and them before they see you. Once the thin veneer of civility we currently enjoy collapses, people will behave like animals and YOU must be prepared to respond to their aggressions.
Having a second, or a few seconds to respond to the threat may mean the difference between your survival and your obituary!! A LOT can happen in a second.
You will be surprised what you will see once you begin looking. You don't live in a vacuum. The threats are there for you to see.
Operational Security/Situational Awareness is the key that unlocks the door for you to be able to see the threats you would have missed before.
